Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1978 volume:

smiiAiiJv ft I was in F.H.A. We had a lot of fun in outside activities. Our initiations were really great. Our Tri-Rivers meetings great too. But best of all I really enjoyed our leaders. Annette Shearer The clubs and organizations — the sense of belonging. The school social life is what makes our years in school so very enjoyable. Melodic Rayl ft ft Clubs are appointments to keep, offices to run for, meetings to attend. Parties — slave sales, the State Convention. Melinda Foos Initiations. Parties. Advisors. Togas. Sombreros. These words can only describe one thing — the clubs at North Union. Most clubs are active and raise money independently David Smith 4 44 It’s Friday and the spirits are high. In mid December it is usually the day of a basketball game. Classes are shortened in the afternoon to allow time for the pep assembly. The last bell rings and people stampede into the gymnasium filled with the thrilling sound of the fight song. The pep assembly is the introduction to a successful game and a welcome weekend Julie Wall The thrill and excitement starts even before the game. The bright light shines down upon the empty court. Everyone is tense until that moment when the referee tosses up the first tip-off. After that, it is a battle of skill. Towards the end, the game becomes heated as the fans do. The only thing to be heard is the pounding of feet, whistles blowing, and fans cheering for their team until they become hoarse. There is suspense until the last seconds tick by. Everyone is on their feet cheering; for we have won by two points. The game ends in an exhausting satisfaction Amy Fitzpatrick 6 8 ft School is the best thing that could ever happen to a person. The social life, learning, etc. could never be equalled anywhere else. Even though we all put on an act that school is a pain, I feel we all not give it up for anything David Smith ft School; a place for learning, a place for growing, and a place for tasting life. Melody Rayl ft Such sadness, we are leaving now. Leaving friends and familiar places. We shall miss them. But as we look ahead, new faces and places appear. In our small minds, thoughts mature, but nothing shall ever replace those glorious memories of the fun-filled halls that we called “home”. Sims Norway It sure was a fine time I spent at North Union from December until graduating as a senior May 78. I enjoyed knowing all of you students and the hard working (!) teachers. You were friendly and that made my stay in the United States worth while. You sure know how to treat a foreigner! I’d love to see you again one of these years. — Already, I’m making plans to come back and see more of America, it’s to great of a country to forget! In the meantime. So Long!! A.E. Mundal Germany I had a wonderful exchange experience. I love football itself, it was a great experience. During the year a lot of people asked me if I was sometimes homesick. I was a little homesick around Christmas. I think what helped me from getting homesick was that I had a busy letter-exchange with my parents during the whole year and that I was always busy. I participated in Wrestling, Track, and Field and Football, which I think is the greatest sport. I for sure will miss Football. I remember the first days at school, where nobody could understand me well and I had a awful time to understand you. My exchange experience was much more fun when I mastered the language better. In all, I enjoyed my stay very much. But finding it and keeping it seems difficult to do; Difficult because we think that happiness is found Only in the places where wealth and fame abound And so we go on searching in “palaces of pleasure” Seeking recognition and monetary treasure Unaware that happiness is just a “state of mind” Within the reach of everyone who takes time to be kind For in making others happy We will be happy, too.
