Spirits were dampened as the hard-fought game ended in a 0 - 0 tie. The Wildcats then won five games in a. row, the highlight of which was a con- vincing 26-6 victory over Marion Catholic. The Cats then dropped the last four games. To many it was a disappointing finish, but many special team and individual efforts made for an interesting year. Bill Wilds was named MOC Most Valuable Player. Our Team 75 - 76 Go get 'em Lee! 32 Takes talent! The freshman football team opened its '75 season with a super defensive effort against Buckeye Valley. The Cats then defeated Kenton, behind a very quick and powerful offensive line. The highlight of the season was no doubt a victory over previously unbeaten Elgin, winning 22 - 6. The freshman gridders, coached by Virgil Rankin and assistant Larry Joseph, finished the season with a very impressive 6-1 record. Fantastic Frosh Let's get him! 34 Reserve Cheerleaders Senior Girls Tromp Juniors Once upon a time the North Union football cheerleaders decided to have a Powderpuff football game to make some money. The excite- ment mounted as the game neared, and all the girls worked their hardest under their coaches. Senior coach Warthen and Junior coach Dr. Coulter worked hard also for this important event. The Senior girls put it together late in the game to win with a 16-12 victory. The more- than-spirited Senior Powderpuff cheerleaders kept up the girls morale to lead them on to their victory. 36 Connie Wiley takes a look from the sidelines In Powderpuff Game 16 - 12 Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon Greg smiles even though his leg is painfully taped. Although our team took only third in the con- ference, we had one of the best skilled teams thanks to the tremendous coaching of Coach Stuck and Assis- tant Coach Sadowski. Melanie Grose and Ann Stout were named to the MOC. Varsity Foiled again 43 The Wildcat link- sters compiled a 12- 5-2 dual meet record and finished an im- pressive second place in the Top Eight Tournament, consist- ing of the top eight teams in the Central District. The Cats were led by Senior Co-Captains Mark Ev- ans with a 40.5 aver- age; Tim Berg 41.2; and Gary Price right behind with a 41.5 av- erage. At the MOC Meet, the squad fin- ished just behind first place champion Mt. Gilead. The team al- so fashioned a tough 7th place of 32 teams in the class AA Sec- tionals. 44 45 ft C J Country The 1975 Cross Coun- try team began its sea- son with last year's varsi- ty returning. The school day ended with a pep-session, where the cheerleaders did a dance routine to “Rock Around the Clock . However, the fun and excitement was con- tinued with a Fifties Day dance, (sponsored by Student Council) which followed the basketball game with Mount Gilead. 55 Basketball The North Union Varsity Basketball Team was coached by Charles Haw- kins. The team earned 4th place in the Mid-Ohio Con- ference. David Cline was the leading scorer with 293 points, earning First Team Honors. Brian Baker and Bill Wilds received Honorable Mentions. 57 Reserve Cheerleaders 60 The fourth season of the wrestling team proved outstanding during the year. This was shown by cap- turing our own N.U. Tournament and plac- ing 1st in the MOC. Through our great coaching staff of Coach Camp and Coach Joseph that the boys were able to work up to their po- tential. Six men went to district. Jeff Gra- ham was named most Valuable Member of the NU Tournament. 62 Although the gymnastics team was a very young team, it did not hinder the team's scores. Instead the freshman members added great strength to this years team. Freshman, Karen Neel, was the team’s Highest scorer, followed by senior Tami Searles. There was a great deal of improvement among the team members. Mrs. Coulter, the gymnastic coach, was very proud of their 3rd place showing in the MOC meet. Another high point of the season was a victory over the Buckeye Valley team, a first for the North Union gymnasts. 64 The intramural basket- ball program, under Mr. Ring’s supervision, had quite a successful season, with 50 or 60 boys partici- pating. Each week, Mr. Ring chose a Player of the Week, and a Most Promis- ing Athlete. When asked how he liked being associ- ated with intramural bas- ketball, he said, “It was one of the most enjoyable school experiences I’ve had. After two nights of tournament competition, Greg Stinemetz's team won the 1976 Intramural Cham- pionship. 66 Basketball NU Marysville 67 Delaware Hayes 49 Fairbanks 63 Elgin 52 Pleasant 57 Marion Catholic Benjamin Logan 48 43 _ . Another unusual event also happened when NU wel- comed their first woman baseball coach. Miss Col- well. Dave Cline, Rick Cun- ningham, Scott McElroy and Kelly Monroe were named to the MOC team. 98 o The North Union Track Team had a busy year. New school records were set in Hi Jump by Brian Baker (6'6 ). Jeff Starks tied the old record for the 100 yd. dash. The two mile relay record time of 8:31.3 was accom- plished by Brian Ham- ilton, Keith Zuspan, Darrel Kirbey. Dis- trict Champions J. Starks in 440 and B. Baker in high jump. Both competed in the State Meet. J. Starks also set a new record of 50.4 in the 440. B. Baker won the 120 and high hurdles.
