cat tales Dennis Hillman Tom Anderson-Advisor Table Of Contents Today We Follow Tomorrow We Lead This is the year of A New Time. This is a time of new values, new outlooks, a new group of leaders, and a new decade to lead. We were born in the era of atomic hostility and grew up in a society that was groping for the edge of space. Since that time we have matured during the turbulent swirling kaleidoscope of the changing sixties. We have seen man stand on the moon in the heavens and cast a wondering gaze back to his planet earth. His giant leap was still just a small step from that troubled world. A giant leap from the hatred, war, misery, and upheaval of to- day belongs in A New Time that will pro- vide the leaders who have the faith, de- termination, and courage to face the problems of an uncertain future. We have stood on the sidelines long enough, and now we are no more followers and spec- tators; we must lead that future. It is to A New Time that this book is dedicated. There is a pride in the atmosphere here. The time is now upon us that we must examine and appraise our educational system, recognizing candidly those areas in which it has failed and dedicating ourselves to its improvement. In doing this, we will retain the stature that has existed and create an excitement that it so rightly deserves in a society such as ours. The steps are difficult and may be painful: however, if we believe in ourselves and the vital importance ol the challenge be- fore us, we shall succeed in our endeavors. We hope to create at North Union an atmosphere that will cause stu- dents to assume the responsibility for their own education. Mr. William Stephan Superintendent This is a wonderful time to be alivel Our society does face massive problems, and to be involved in their solu- tions is a worthy challenge to the best within each of us. Those who make democracy work, think and act construc- tively and positively. These people one finds in every community and in every school. They are people who live joyously, who work hard, play hard, study hard. They meet life head-on; they discipline themselves; they prepare themselves: they question; they learn. Here at North Union we are fortunate in having many such people, and I am glad to have the privilege of being associated with you. It is a wonderful time to be alive! Mr. W.D. We earned some money as Coke slingers at the basketball concession stand and booster-bar sales. We also made a good contribution to school spirit with out pep session cheering. We have had great class participation in school activities and clubs. We have also had many Sopho- mores in all varsity sports. Although we are underclassmen, we have been a strong athletic foundation at NUHS. As a class project, we had a bake sale which was quite successful. We are now planning another project. It is our unbiased opinion that the Class of '73 is the greatest class of Wildcats in NUHS, and will continue to be so in our remaining years as North Union Wildcats! 48 Roy Allen Robin Apt Bruce Baker Rick Beck ley Bob Beightler Chris Blain Bob Blue John Boggs Carol Brill Westley Britcnstine Tom Bruce Carl But Mike Chapman Brad Conrad Keith Cowgill Cindy Cox Vicki DeBoit Jerry Dowler Dan Duncan Linda Earharl 49 Mildred Earhart Larry Eastman Valerie Eastman Chuck Ehret Tom Gwynn Marcia Hamilton Beth Harrison 50 Vicki Jones Phil Kavanaugh Dan Krcbehcnnc Karen Laughom Tim Livingston Laura Lookabaugh Mike Hartley Donna Hendrickson Vera Hendrickson Sonny Hicks Emerson Hilcman Shaunene Hillman Walter Hilt Eric Hoffman Bill Lowe Dennis McComas Greg McElroy Jeff Me Elroy Janet McKnight Bcv McMahon Brad Meadows Karla Meddles Pat Morse Greg Mount Rick Mount 52 Rebecca Mounts Guy Mowery Dan Nelson Mary Riedmiller Diana Robbins Joy Robinson Steve Robinson 53 Randy Ross Bonnie Rowland Larry Rubeck Mike Sanderson Cindy Schurch John Sandusky Coleen Sheets Sue Schmelzer Patti Skidmore Debra Smith Julie Smith Lisa Smith Joe Speyer Deborah Slults Phil Styer Marilyn Tevis Mary Tevis 54 Julie Travis Debbie Thornburg Susan Waters Debra Webb Larry Webb Sandy Webb Robin Welch Terry Welsh Mike Wibley Denise Wilcox Edra Wilds Cathy Wiley Luanne Wiley Tony Williams Rick Winkle Robin Winkle Skip Woodruff 55 Debbie Clevenger- Sludeni Council. With a win over the Ridgemont Golden Gophers, our non- conference season ended with a 1-1 record. When the Wild- cats failed to ‘cash in’ on two extra-point trys, they dropped their conference opener to Highland. A polished offense and hustling defense brought about an upset over a highly rated Buckeye Valley. The relentless pressure of Cardington provided the Pirates with their Homecoming win. The Wildcats then came back to even out the record at 3-3 with a Homecoming win over Northmor. Hopes were high in the 1st 10 minutes as Wildcats scored 24 points, but that was not quite enough to scalp the Mt. Gilead Indians. In the fog bowl, Big Walnut Eagles spoiled North Union’s home finale. The Wildcats came to play, and play they did, as they crushed their archrivals, the Irish of Marion Catholic 46-8. 66 I blew it again! This thing, EFFORT, comes under various and sundry guises, determination, desire, dedication, prac- tice, training, and no little skill. All developed over a period of time and fused to explode at a given point. The 1970 Wildcat grid- ders learned this lesson painfully, as several results could easily have been more favorable. But LEARN THEY DID! The EFFORT in the closing game, along with the results, will always be remem- bered by all involved.
