Mr. W.D. Cochran - Principal The worth of a school is measured not in dollars and cents, but in the achievements of its students, and in the quality of their subsequent participation in the social, economic, and civic life of their society. Thus, the ultimate and tru- est evaluation of North Union High School of the year 1970 cannot be made until long after its present occupants have departed. I have a pro- found belief in the basic abilities and social val- ues of the great majority of our students. To the class of 1970, I say that it has been good to have had you as a part of us; it has been professionally interesting to have participated in your sometimes falteringbut generally steady program toward maturity. Mr. Fetter - Superintendent Entering the decade of the seventies we are faced with problems of over-population, environ- mental contamination, delicate uncertain human re- lations and many others. Young people have acquired new freedom to do many things and now must learn to accept responsibility for their actions. The task of Growing-up is not an easy one. The vast increase in knowledge demands that we not only make the best use of our years of formal education but also that we continue our education throughout our lives. In addition to accumulating information and acquiring job skills, it is necessary for each person to develop moral, ethical and religious stand- ards and to establish limits in relation to the use of drugs, narcotics, alcohol and tobacco. Many of these decisions must be made relatively early in life. A happy and successful life requires planning, dedica- tion, faith, and a considerable amount of effort. With all of the potential problems, life in the seventies should be faced with anticipation, determi- nation, and optimism. I wish each student and mem- ber of the staff of North Union High School the ful- fillment of his highest hopes and fondest dreams.
