., . fi foy lf, ZJNL was born at Summerdale, New York, on June 20, l886. After graduating from Sherman High School, she taught in a rural school nearby. Specializing in engineering mathematics, physics. and astronomy, she matriculated at Alleghany College, Meadville, Pennsylvania. As President of her class, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. While affiliated for seventeen years with the Wellsville Schools, she was an energetic leader. 'l'hroughout her life, Mrs. Lish displayed a keen interest in sports, nature, and many extra-curricular activities. The identification of trees and flowers was one of her most engrossing hobbies. As recently as l943 she found the almost extinct variety of wild plant known as the Cardinal Flower, a model of which is now in the Buffalo Museum of Science. An avid baseball fan. she also excelled in tennis during her college days. In later years she gave nnstintingly of her talent to various societies. In 1929 Mrs. Lish became a teacher of mathematics in North Tonawanda. Instrumental in promoting worthwhile projects, this Senior adviser initiated a successful system for financing the Senior Class. lntensely interested in every enterprise of the Upper-Classmen, she often accompanied them in their annual trips to Washington, D. C. Her executive skill was an invaluable asset to the Business Staff of the Yearbook. In i941 Mrs. Lish helped to found the National Honor Society here. A conscientious and industrious teacher, Floy Lish was a generous and beloved friend. The entire student body of our high school miss her kindly presence, but will remember her constructive work. Perhaps her character is best revealed in the letters received from servicemen, who have testified to her memorable assistance and instruction. From a letter sent by one of her former students, we give this fitting tribute to Floy S. PAC it i HE age old adage, 6'All's well that ends wellf, should be a comforting one to the members of our Faculty. lt was expected that in September 1945, a perfectly normal school year would begin with the usual prelimin- ary confusion but that eventually a precedented semester would follow. With the postponement of the opening of school, the members ol the statl found it necessary to revise their programs to insure the required amount of work in a shortened period of study. There was little doubt that this could be done with the right consistency of teamwork. Witll this obstacle overcome, each department undertook the task ol' adjusting its particular phase of instruction to wartime restrictions and demands of a nation ur- gently in need of mentally, morally, and physically fit youths. The respon- sibility of instilling democratic ideals and standards lay, unquestionably, in the hands of the capable men and women presiding in the classroom. This challenge met an overwhelming response. 1535-iii ' Y
