VARSITY BASKETBALL North Tarrytown's basketball team, minus Ed Croke, Mike Lazor, Joe Alvado, Pat Pilla and company opened its '49-'50 season on Tuesday, December 6, against Elmsford. North Tarrytown has plenty of speed and spirit, but no height. Coach Joe Sager and his team will have to work hard to bring about a championship team. Hugh Nicol, fine ball-handler and excellent set-shot artist was elected captain of the squad. Co-captain is .lim Packy Powers. Rounding out the squad will be Tony Zingaro, Fred Knieriem, John Schwer, Bob Robinson, John Fiala, John Ragusa, Bill Tait, Jim McElwaine, Al Lazor and Bob Moro. JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL The Junior Varsity Basketball team went through a very successful schedule of 'I8 games, winning 12, while losing but 6. GIRLS' INTRAMURALS Field Hockey was added to the intramural program at N.T.H.S. this year. Under the capable instruction of Miss Ellene Edmond, the girls were taught the funda- mentals of this exciting game. Next year it is hoped that an interclass league will be formed as the sport was enthusiastically received by the girls. The interest and enthusiasm shown by the girls has led to a very extensive athletic program. Among the competitive sports enioyed are: basketball, bowling, volleyball, badminton, ping-pong, tennis and softball. Miss Edmond has developed a system that enables B A S E B A L L Marilyn Cornell, Alice Wright, Arlene Stoller. V O L L E Y B A L L Jean Gleason, Jean Karpinski, Irene Mann. each girl who earns a total of 1800 points during her four years of intramurals to receive an athletic letter. Competition for these letters is keen. Through promoting these activities, it is hoped that the interest in sports will be increased and the rules of the games more thoroughly understood by those par- ticipating in them. -MARILYN MAHER.
