Third Row Cleft to Righty: Mr. Harold Rasbeck, Steve Pendzuk, Daniel Riui, John Fiala, Fred Knieriem, George Barr. TR The North Tarrytown Track team, under the mentorship of coaches Harold Rasbeck and Ken Brown, had a successful season as they capped the Hudson River league title over Ossining, Washington Irving, and Peekskill, for the first time in the history of N.T. Much of the credit for the successful season should go to the squad's coach, Harold Rasbeck and his assistant Ken Brown. These two men worked diligently over the three-year-period gradually building up the team until it reached its present strength. The Orange and Black went undefeated in dual meet competition. They copped the Pentagonal meet for the second successive year. Two records were broken and established in the Pentagonalp by two N.T. runners, namely: Joe Hanak and John Beni. Joe Hanak, the diminutive miler, broke the old record of 4 minutes, 55 and 5 tenths seconds, held by Ken Stafford of Washington Irving, in the good time of 4 minutes and 49 seconds. John Beni, the sturdy veteran, set a new Pentagnnal meet record of 14 and 3 tenths seconds in the low hurdles, eliminating the old standard set by Claude Mace of Washington Irving in 1943. The track team traveled to White Plains, for the Westchester County Relays, and walked away with two trophies and four medals. Fran Gal- gano, Bob Robinson, Bob Norsek, and Walter Johnson composed the 440 quartet which won the tirst of the two trophies. The second trophy-winning quartet was the two mile team, composed of John Covert, Andy Garrant, Neil Gollogly, and Joe Hanak. The aforementioned quartet set the two mile record in the time of 8 minutes and 50 seconds. A Mr. Harold Rasbeck and Mr. Kenneth Brown TRACK COACHES Coach Rasbeck made two prognostications: that N.T. would win the H.R.L. and that Robinson and Galgano would be individual winners. His predicitions came true as Robby won the Broad Jump, with a leap of 21 feet 5 inches, and Mr. X Galgano climaxed the upset of the year as he excelled Frank Nichols of W.I. in the 100 yard dash. In the sectional Robby set a new Class B Broad Jump record of 21 feet 4 inches. Galgano and Robinson were chosen to represent Section One in the lntersectional meet at West Point. The outstanding runner of the '49 season was Joe Hanak, the tlying Czecho-Slovakian. He placed first in every meet except two. He set two records, the Pentagonal record and the Ossining meet, where he broke the old mile record of 4 minutes and 37 seconds set by Pete Budelli of Ossining, and established a new meet mark of 4 minutes and 33 seconds. On the average four N.T. runners placed first in every dual meet. In almost every dual meet, the N.T. runners placed one, two, three in some events, causing a complete sweep. The team, as a whole, brought homo four trophies for the showcase, not to mention the individual awards won by the runners. The lettermen are as follows: Bob Robinson, Fran Galgano, Mike lazor, Ted London, Joe Hanak, Joe Partlow, Andrew Garrant, Neil Gollogly, John Covert, Bob Moro, John Maffucci fCapt.I, Joe Occhipinti, John Beni, Bob Collin, Roland Godbout, Walter Johnson, Don Pastell, Fred Knieriem, and Bob Norsek. -ANDREW GARRANT.
