Searching the memories ol the past, Weiqhed by the thought of ancient fears. Seen from the scope of scholars last. Now speeds the sorrowing plight ol day. Unbound by its temporal force oi power. To which crude time has shown the way. Druining its lile from ev'ry hour. Such in truth, before thy ieet, When great kings. their kingdoms ruled Knew not oi the golden seat, Reigned by one with knowledge ieweled. IOHN MAFFUCCI LCHOOL, NORTH TARRYTOWN, NEW YORK it A., W 'Mli.E DEDICATION The trumpets of life have sounded: Faded with the echoes of time, Marked with the air of purity, To the dust, from whence we came. Such is the path of life to take- Reflects from heart to soul of man. Shows the picture of the mind Unaltered, its true plan. Thus, angels live from day to day, We know not whom, within our reach, Until the light that lit the way, Casts its shadow o'er the road. Away, fair comrade. The battle is won: Till in fate again, we meet. lOl-IN MAFFUCCI A , Wai nf' 5 Q M T' 1 IN MEMORY OF FRANK GAGLIARDI I f-M Administration MR. DELBERT O. ' as A ' ' '1- Is it possible that, but four short years ago, we, as inexperienced seamen, eager to unfold the mys- teries of the deep, set forth upon this, the first major voyage of our lives? Our log is now com- plete and we can recall, as if it were only yester- day, the first insertion we apprehensively made in the bold. blank expanse .... SEPTEMBER, 1945 The first step of the humble Freshman Class was to elect officers to pilot them through the stormy waters of the first year. Michael Lazor was elected Skipper with Iohn Maffucci, lean Gallagher, and Alice Sabo as his competent assistants. Miss Verena Deuel shared a great portion of the re- sponsibility for the first lap of our voyage. The Class of '46 gave us a warm reception to launch us on our journey. That day we were attired in various odd-looking garments which rendered us almost incapable of ordinary recognition. Iean Gallagher and Elmer Kenyon almost missed the boat when they were captured by the seniors and forced to serve as mascots for the day. MARCH, 1946 The first entertainment to be provided by the class of '49 was a successful spring dance. The success of this dance and the year in general gave CLASS us something to look forward to in the three years yet to come. SEPTEMBER, 1946 After a full, free summer we, as young seabees. are back and ready for the second lap of our journey. This year found us again guided by that capable captain, Michael Lazor. Edward Croke. Dominick Cabriele, and Iohn Maffucci, served as second, third, and fourth mates this time. Miss Marion Hennessey gave our crew her able guid- ance this year. MARCH, 1947 True to the expectations of our freshman year. we again held a dance for which we received much well-deserved praise. And an unusual dance it was! Those who attended were carried into an unknown phantasy and believed themselves ac- tually walking on the bottom of the sea, for our dance was called the Undersea Jamboree. SEPTEMBER, 1947 Our Iunior year is now beginning and we are setting sail on the third lap of our journey, confi- dent that our last two years will prove to be the 24 11-wma HISTCRY best yet. Again under the direction ol Michael Lazor, we got off to a good start. Dominick Cabriele, Iva Mary Moore, and Iohn Maffucci assisted the captain in this difficult task. NOVEMBER, 1947 The Iuniors got otf to a flying start at the N. T.- W. I. football game where they sold hot dogs. soda, and apples to the many rooters. FEBRUARY, 1948 This busy leap year year encouraged the girls as much as possible by having a leap year dance on February 28. This dance was perhaps the big- gest hit of any of the dances sponsored by the Clas of '49. One and all turned out for this gala occasion. MAY, 1948 The time has come tor which many of us have been waiting all through high school-our chance to give a prom. The gym has been decorated in delicate pastel shades and it is truly a lovely sight to see the girls in their lovely evening gowns R Y, x, R , N- fX xx. 5 and the boys stepping out in tux, etc. lMary Biros was crowned queen of our prom.l SEPTEMBER, 1948 At least we are seniors! After a grand and glorious vacation we are back full of vim, vigor and vitality for the last and greatest year of our high school course. Everybody is on board and ready. Michael Lazor is elected for a fourth con- secutive term. On the slate with him are Edward Croke, Nancy Scribano, and Livia Rocchi. Mr. Orloff Story and Mr. Lawrence W. Hynes, two weathered seamen, help pilot our boat this year. According to the true tradition of the sea, we must welcome in the Freshmen. Although we cannot have an initiation, we will give them a frolic which they will never forget. IUNE, 1949 Our senior ball has come and graduation, too. We have arrived at our destination, but we are missing one dear member of our crew. We are now departing on our second and much longer separate voyages and regret that we must say ship, ahoy to dear old N. T. H. S. K 1 A J ANN TAYLOR and MARION SKIBA 1. , . T.'s Horsemen under the capable coaching of Mr. Whitton and Mr. Wilford. ended the football season with a fine record. The team, from the first practice session, was instilled with the desire to upset the pre-season choice of many sport fans who picked North Tarrytown to garner a lowly fourth place in the newly formed Hudson River Football League. The Orange and Black started the season against their traditional first game rivals, Hastings: again, the Yellow- i jackets tied N. T., 6-6. The succeeding weekends saw the rampaging Horsemen nip a highly favored Middletown team 7-6 and virtually scalp the Ossining Indians in a surprising upset, for the fourth straight time, 18-13. Peekskill was handed a 25-0 massacre by the Orange and Black. A tremendous second-half saw N. T. score twice to beat Bronxville 14-8. The climax of the season was reached when N. T.'s stalwart footballers trounced W. I. 32-6. to win the annual Gibson-Horan trophy and the Hudson River League Championship. DOMINICK CABRIELE W FCJCDT MR. WILLIAM WHITTON MR. On Sager's starting team, there were only three men from the pre- vious year's team. The rest of the team was composed of boys playing their first year of football. However, the Iunior Horsemen came through with an upset victory in their first game of the season, beating Edgemont 6-0. Other notable games were the Ossining and W. I. games in which the I. V.'s gave spirited performances against much more ,A . experienced boys. r V The future does not look too bad for the team either as they 5 -- will lose only three or four boys to the Varsity team next year, and with this one year of tough competition, they should have a highly successful season in 1949. However, he fashioned a team composed of Co-captains Pat Pilla and Ed Croke and members of last year's second team and Iunior Varsity. With this outfit, N. T. opened the season against the powerful Pleasantville Panthers and upset the Cats 51- 44. The next three games N. T. played were against the power of the county and the Orangemen took three straight losses from W. I., White Plains, and Edison Tech, last year's class A champions. The fifth game the Horsemen played, was against Ossining who came into town with an undefeated team, only to be upset by N. T. again 55-49, in a stunning overtime victory. Dobbs Ferry's Eagles were the Orange's next victims bowing 54-42 to N. T. As this book went to press, the Horsemen had made it three in a row as they upset previously undefeated School for Deaf. No longer is this a dream, for next year N. T. will have this play area definitely for the girls. This year fate-that is, in the form of con- struction and painting, hampered our program. Fieldball was eliminated and the start of bas- ketball delayed. In spite of these interruptions, intramurals were held in basketball, bowling, volleyball and individual participation in badminton and ping pong. Next year's enlarged athletic program should encourage 100 per cent participation by the girls. To the underclassmen, we senior girls are envious of the large program which is planned. but as alumni, we shall watch with interest the development of a wide scale activity program designed especially for the girls.
