FLORENCE BERNARD-Visitor from Abroad Of all our high school memories, one that shall remain forever in our minds is that fateful day in assembly when Florence said, ln France we have gym classes, not shower classes! Clf you didn't know Flo before that time, you realized then that she was one of us.J Florence Bernard was born in Caulommiers, France, a small Town fifty miles from Paris. The Bernard family is quite close, especially Florence and her sisters, Chautal and Aurele. When they were younger the three girls attended a small school five miles from their home, but now they attend a boarding school in Caulommiers. Florence has taken many difficult courses, which have included Latin, Greek, French, English, chemistry, physics, biology, music and sewing. After talking to Flo none of us should complain about our schedules. Flo attended school in France from 8:30 to 11:30 and again from 1:30 to 4:30. Beacause of this heavy schedule not many French teenagers have time to work outside of school or to carry on an active social life. Florence has said that colleges in France are very much the same as those in the United States. On completion of her high school years, Flo hopes to attend Faculte de Lettres where she will maior in foreign lan- guages. ln the lunchroom, we seldom see Flo eating ice cream! It isn't that she doesn't care for it, on the contrary, she loves it! However, when Flo arrived in the U.S., she could never get enough of it. As a result the inevitable happened. Ice cream is now viewed with a somewhat iaun- diced eye. And in all Flo has enioyed the time spent here with us. We, in turn, have gained a great deal having her here, not only because she is friendly and sweet, but also because we are playing a part in interna- tional friendship. We shall never forget Flo, our friend from France.
