Superintendent STANLY COUNTY Luther A. Adams, Superintendent Oliven T. Cowan. Asst. Superintendent Bmd Education Mkemde, Nintk Ctmkna ?S00l and Assistant Superintendent of the Schools MR. LUTHER A. ADAMS Superintendent June 1, 1965 TO MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1965: COMMENCEMENT - A commencing; beginning. According to Webster this is the time to begin, to start, to initiate. I would like to challenge each of you to approach this commencement season with the feeling that you have just started the great game of life. I must concede that you have reached a plateau in this endeavor during the past 12 years of elementary and secondary education. However, reaching this plateau is not the end but merely the beginning of a great and challenging . future . ! In just a few short years the responsibility for decisions that affect this community, state, nation and yes, the world, will rest upon your shoulders. The destiny of this nation is in your hands. As you are exposed to this era of the Atomic and Nuclear Age, the age when space travel is imminent and week-end jaunts to the Moon instead of the beach a distinct possibility, your hearts and minds must always be pure and wholesome and understanding. Always place yourself in position to make decisions with wisdom and intelligence. i It is your responsibility, yes your obligation and heritage, to foster and preserve this great American Nation in the tradition and manner in which has been provided for you and to which you have become accustomed. Yes, this is the beginning of a splendid opportunity for each of you to be of service to yourself and to mankind. In medicine, science, industry, religion, law, teaching; whatever course you pursue in this great game of life, I leave with you this thought and this wish - that you strive to live by THE GOLDEN RULE - DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE OTHERS DO UNTO YOU. I will watch with interest and a feeling of pride as your accomplish- ments grow and as each of you move with this challenge to begin, to start, to commence. My very best wishes to all members of the Class of 1965 . Cordially yours Luther A. Adams Superintendent H l MR. OLIVEN T. COWAN Assistant Superintendent 7

DR. PAUL W. PEDDICORD, Principal Principal s Message The importance of an educated populace has assumed gigantic proportions in modern times. There is increasing evidence to support the hypothesis that this trend will continue for years to come. It is impera- tive, therefore, that the school create an atmosphere which is conducive to maximum educational growth and development. The increasing importance of an enlightened public has added responsibility on the school. Not only is the contemporary school responsible for teaching certain fundamental skills to its pupils, but also for stim- ulating its pupils to discover and cultivate those qualities which are essential to a fruitful life. If this insti- tution is to achieve optimum results with its increasing obligations, the assistance and cooperation of pupils and parents must be manifested at all times. Without a combined effort on the part of the school, its pupils, and its parents, only limited success will be realized. In our ever-changing society we must constantly be reminded of our responsibility to ourselves and to our fellow man. This responsibility can only be fulfilled through an educated citizenry which possesses un- derstanding, patience, and foresight. The success of our nation and world will depend to a great extent upon the degree to which each of these qualities in developed and nurtured. DR. PAUL W. PEDDICORD 6
