“High Expectations’ Coach Steve Sides, of the J.V. football team, had ‘‘high expectations for the 1985 season.”’ However, because the J.V. team had only one coach with which to work, they were unable to specialize. Despite the team’s shortcomings, Coach Sides felt “that these were the best kids he had ever coached.” Bound to have some outstanding player, the J.V. team ended their season with Ray Kines receiving the Coaches Award. Other players Coach Sides thought were outstanding, had been Leonard Tolson and Ashton Green, on defense and Mike Saltz and Jay Paterson on offense. The Freshman football team was enthusiastic about the season, playing a high school sport for the first time. All the members had a lot of hard work ahead of them new plays to learn before they went on the field. Coach Mills said that “‘All the players gave 100%, no matter what the situation was.’’ Two outstanding players were Ray Thomas and Calvin Lucas.
