Gridders Blast Their Opponents Compiling an 8-l record, the Redskin gridmen completed their most success- ful season since Bob Cowan took over the post of head-coach three years ago. Only a coin-ilip denied the Cowan men the right of representing the East Division of the Northern Indiana Con- ference in the East-West playoff, but a 5-l conference record entitled them to share honors with Adams and Wash- ington of South Bend. North regained the prized City Series Crown with a 3-O record on the local scene . The first crowd to use the new stadium saw the Redskins turn back the Blue Blazers of Elkhart by a l3-O margin in their initial N.l.C. contest. Michigan City could drive no farther than North's l7 yard stripe and finally yielded, Sl-O, giving the Redskins their second con- ference victory oi the season. North's only loss came at the hands of South Bend Adams, a tussle in which the Page 98 Eagles' star, lohnny Robins, sparked his team to a l4-6 victory. Central was the first city rival to fall victim to North's crushing grid machine, by an 8-6 tally. North's sec- ond-stringers had a hand in dealing South Side a crushing 51-l9 blow, and an l8-U beating handed luckless Cen- tral Catholic clinched the city title for the Redskins. Following triumphs over Central and Washington of South Bend, North blanked South Bend Riley, l8-O, in their final effort of the season. l-lonorary captain honors were shared by Bob Pace, Dick Snyder, and E rank Schollett. Eleven other members of the l955 grid squad who will have to be replaced next season include: Phil Sheets, Larry Hall, Lynn I-larp, Bob Meister, Phil l-losler, Dewey Senger, Pete Paulison, Ralph Bogardus, Dick Esterline, Al Glock, and Hugh Glock.
