The IoyaITy, spiriT, and good sporTsmanship shown by The sTudenT body as a whole was ouTsTanding. IT gave NorTh Side The honor oT winning The CiTy SporTsmanship Trophy Tor The TirsT Time since iTs incepTion. This year, NorTh Side boys and girls Tormed organized cheering bloclcs. The girls' block was The TirsT To become a reaIiTy. A ToTaI oT II2 girls signed up aT The beginning oT The season and meT shorTIy aTTerwards To decide on Their ouTTiTs-whiTe I-Iendan blouses, red Ties and gloves, whiTe head bands and red TeaThers Tor TournamenT games, and dark sIcirTs. Their adviser, Mr. Rhoads, and The cheerleaders received much co-operaTion from The group, and soon The girls were able To begin The diTTicuIT Taslc oT Torming IeTTers. Whenever They perTormed They were a Tremendous success. NoT To be ouTdone, The boys decided To Torm Their own block. Jim I-Iollman and Jim McGarry, The insTigaTors oT The group, goT TogeTher IOO boys, who chose To wear whiTe shirTs, and darlc Trousers, Terry Coclcrell, PeTe Paulison, and oThers prepared clever sIciTs which were presenTed beTore games and during The haIT-Time. Several snappy yells originaTecI in The boys' bloclc and were used TreguenTIy ThroughouT The Tourney. The bloclcs won much praise Trorn oTher Indiana high schools and many oT Their ideas were copied by The ciTy high schools.
