THE 1956 LASSO Foreword A peep through a keyhole may reveal many interesting things. The excitement of a secret is much too great for some people so why not open the door and see the action of a wonderful year lived and experienced by the North Side students. The sound of merging traffic in the hall, the beat of a typewriter, the sound of basketball, football and track, the ex- citement of a pep rally and the anticipa- tion of the next game will be found on the other side of the door. As we go our separate ways and talk to people about the memories, the spirit and the traditions we upheld this year, lets remember that this is North Side. Fake a peck and go on in. Editor’s Message We now come to the end of our tour of the school year '55- 56 in our beloved school on the hill. For some, this year was the glorious climax of three action-filled years spent at North Side. For others, with the memory of tow sack dresses and undignified can-can dances still vivid in their minds, the year was the humble start of their high school careers. But regardless of our status, each of us has many golden and treasured memories wrapped up in this school year. We hope that as you peeped through the keyholes of the doors repre- senting North Side’s many activities, these cherished moments to remember will be clarified in your mind. When, many years from now, you thumb through the pages of this year- book, you will again relive the crisp autumn mornings with the chattering, happy students waiting for the bell to ring, the tremor of excitement in the air as the cheerleaders run down the aisles of the auditorium as the chords of the fight song break forth in a big pep rally or maybe the qualms felt over the disccting of a frog in biology class. As you progress through this album of memories, you will remember the little things like the rustlv sounds of taffeta and the discomfort of being in a tuxedo at the Popularity Ball, along with the winter nights you waded through the mud to the Public Schools Gymnasium to watch the Steers rack up a victory in the last few minutes of a close basketball game with Paschal. Then the memories of spring sunlight pouring into that morning algebra class, giving your spring fever and the loud, rhythmic cadence of the R.O. I .C. drill team as they practice drilling every morning will come rush- ing over you, filling you with the nostalgia only an ex North Sidcr can feel. We, the editors, would like to present this album of memories to you as the Key, the Key that will unlock those sacred doors marked “Memory” and the Key that will forever lock the spirit of North Side in your heart.
