' - 3 6 i’m the spirit of north side high, al •. though i may not look it, i’ve been around !for 70 years, and during that time i’ve been n acquainted with your fathers, mothers brothers, sisters, and many other relatives. i’m in every phase of school activities, andV right now there’s one in particular i want to show you. so let me be your personal guide as we tour the . . . jW V - V O' ' ' AT1 % ■ « . yjf i -!• -!i r vrMAM'.i iniere is the sight of hundreds of faces con- torted by the bitter taste of defeat and the ecclesiastical feeling when victory is gained, the spirit is exemplified by the relationship Jbetween teacher and student resembling that of nature and animal. like the spirit of notre dame and the marine corps, it is a tradition; a tradition that has lasted through the years, and will continue on, becoming greater every year, this year is but one step toward greater heights, as the north side spirit continues onward to a goal, that will be reached when the last grain of sand drops wearily in the great hour glass above. sdeus ■ ,l % John may laughs despite himself come on boys, let’s dance, there’s no time to fix your garters. all alone — but not for long — a senior will soon be along. senior leroy hill screams commands at fish barbara berry, but she just laughs It off. the tradition of fish day is as old as norm siae irsc wiren «■ year the seniors take time out from their work to acquaint the fish with this tradition. the day dawns with the underclass preparing themselves in rags, hose, shortskirts and what have you. amidst the teasing and heckling they manage to reach the “ole school on the hill” by buses, cars and even a few walk. of course these mean seniors must have some sort of refreshment and it just so happens the “fishes” bring gum, candy and even a few smart ones close up the seniors with a few tricks, but of course the hand of the law, our sheriff, seize the wise ones, the most common drill put to use is “air raid,” where the lowly ones hit the deck. comes lunch and if the fish are lucky enough to have an appetite they scramble under the tables and prepare to eat as well as be kicked, the climax is feeding the seniors their well deserved lunch. the grand finale commences when the little ones are marched into the auditorium where they must sit in the aisle until recovering the “north side spirit brand.” as the ceremonies pass the freshmen feel they become a part of the school and employ the name of sophomores to be a part of north side from then on. hit the dust podnor, jamle's mowing 'em down. pete the python hunt glady, frankle and nancy polso tholr weapons ready for the kill. won h«ya j n nc . fo 1 P p ho‘° sergeant joo frlday — oopsl we moan jan bollard — looks for fingerprints on peto's door. when pete the python escaped from his forest park home early in September the north side journalism department resolved to bring him back dead or alive, with cries of “save the old folks and protect the chil- dren” eager students made their way to the south side with knives, guns, sticks, clubs and their own version of what the well dressed hunter should wear, although they didn't find pete, all treked home weary but happy, resolving that next time they would do better. the female huntors pause for a rest. king .■sss?- ,noPP,d' ‘thars snakes In them thar hills say hefty and mary as they search.
