All-County Quarterback Barry Glass rolls out on o bootleg. The Cavs took the game against East Rowan by 21-O CAVALIER CONTRADICTION1 Perfect season a disappointment ew schools can say that their foot- ball team went 11-1 and that they were disappointed. Students at North had the right to make that point after their Cavs fell to an underdog Bunk- er Hill squad in the second round of the NC QA playoffs. The season began with high hopes for a team that had gone o-4 last year and had seventeen starters returning. The Cavs started the season ranked Qnd among the State's football powers and stayed there until the third week of the season, when Lexington's top ranked yellowjackets rolled into Eagle Stadium for what was one of the biggest regular season games in the State all year. The Cavs, led by Darryl Jackson and Deric Sims on the ground, and QD Barry Glass: with receivers Mike Lunsford and Jimmy Kesler through the air, pounded the Jackets 34-O, This was the Cavs' third shutout in as many games. Randleman's tigers were next on the hit list for the powerful Cavs, The tigers had not lost a home game in four years, but fell victim to North's high powered attack. Next was Salisbury, always the biggest game of the year for both teams. This year, both were undefeated, making it so much more important, The Hornets took a 7-O lead into the locker room at halftime, but the Cavs came out fired up after the break, and took control behind the blocking of Senior center Brian Blackwell, guards Kip Bosinger, and Kevin Bailey, and tackles Nick Travis and Scott Lesslie. Two third-quarter touchdowns were all the Cavs needed to take a hard-earned 14-7 win. North Cnow the top ranked team in the State by the associated press? contin- ued its auest for the first Championship of the new conference by blanking W, Da- vidson 42fO and taking a homecoming victory over SW Guilford by 24-O. The Cavs survived a series of crazy bounces that included a pair of onsides kicks and a blocked punt to remain un- defeated, beating Thomasville 22-18. The season closed with big shut-outs over outmanned Ledford and East Da- vidson clubs, ln the first round of the playoffs, The Cavs spotted Albemarle a 13-O first quar- ter lead, but roared back behind Jack- son, Sims and Glass to take a convincing 47,18 win. The highflying Cavaliers ran into a buznaw in Claremont against Bunker Hill. North came out flat and never got it going in the 22-o loss, Most outsiders saw the season as a success, but coaches and players knew that they could have taken all the mar- bles. Kickoffs by Nick Travis became a familiar sight ro Cavalier fans as North scored So touchdowns on its way to a Conference Championship
