ROW ONE: Jean Wilson, Raymond McQueen, President, Arvilla Archer. ROW TWO: Edwin Colburn, George Thomas, Dan Gerberg, Warren Baldridge, Vice-President. BOARD OF EDUCATION A school is an example of Democracy in action. It is a team which is composed of the community, as represented by its elected Board of Education, of the school staff of administrators, teachers and service per- sonnel, and of the students. The success of the team depends upon how each member assumes his own responsibilities. The function of the Board of Education is to determine the school policies and plans, and to evaluate the means of accomplishing the goals: that of the staff is to operate the school program, and carry out the policies and plans. To the student falls the responsibilities of learning the basic knowledges and skills that the school system offers; to enrich his personality with the ideas of beauty, literature, moral values, citizenship, and sportsman- ship to which he is exposed: and to recognize his own integrity as an individual, as well as that of his fellow man. All of these benefit him now, and help prepare him for his adult life. This is a team of which it is well worth being a part, for it reflects the faith of our society in the value of the individual by producing an educational system which can develop an intelligent, informed and responsible citizen capable of taking a positive place in our society of free men-our democracy. The Board of Education is proud of being part of this team. Dan Gerberg 9
