By your never-ending desire and willingness to help, you started us out in high school. We appreciate the many extra hours you spent in helping us with our class projects. On many occasions you gladly gave your time to help us better understand our assignment or the material covered in class. It is with deepest respect and appreciation for your endless faith in us, and for all your efforts, that we thank you and proudly dedi- cate this yearbook to you. 3 ROW ONE: J. Young, E. Owen, M. Your unceasing patience and helpfulness have contributed greatly to our success and happiness. Y o u r friendship is valued highly by all of us. PAULJ. EDINGER, Supervising Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1963= We believe that the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the tilings you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not. This is self-discipline. You can be master of your own fate. You owe no one as much as you owe yourself. You owe yourself the action that opens for you the doors to the goodness, the variety, and the excitement of EFFORT and success, of battle and victory. Making payment on the debt to yourself is the exact opposite of selfishness. You can best pay your debt to society, that has helped make you what you are, by being JUST YOURSELF with all your might. You can fulfill God's plan for your life and fulfill the promise that lies latent within you by keeping your promises to yourself. Success to each of you in building your own life. May it be your masterpiece. Most Sincerely, PaulJ. Edinger FRED DURBIN GRADE SUPERVISOR Appreciation to Mr. Durbin To you, Mr. Durbin, we extend our appreciation for your helpful guidance as a teacher and a friend. We are grateful for the time and effort you have given to us to achieve our goal of graduation. Your cheerfulness and friendliness have helped to make our days at N.R.C.S. more enjoyable. 7 CHARLES SNYDER HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL RUSSELL BAILEY GUIDANCE COUNSELOR Appreciation Mr. Bailey—Mr. Snyder Thank you for the many hours you have spent planning for the good of all of us. As a result of your efforts and your guidance each of us has be- come a better individual. Although we will soon leave the halls of N.R. C.S., we shall never forget the friendship you have given us. MARGARET RISING SECRETARY 8 ELEANOR TELLIER, SECRETARY APPRECIATION We, the seniors of 1963, wish to extend our sincerest appreciation to our secretaries, Eleanor and Margaret, for their thoughtfulness, their helpful aid, and cheerful smiles. For these, we say, Thank you. ROW ONE: Jean Wilson, Raymond McQueen, President, Arvilla Archer. ROW TWO: Edwin Colburn, George Thomas, Dan Gerberg, Warren Baldridge, Vice-President. BOARD OF EDUCATION A school is an example of Democracy in action. It is a team which is composed of the community, as represented by its elected Board of Education, of the school staff of administrators, teachers and service per- sonnel, and of the students. The success of the team depends upon how each member assumes his own responsibilities. The function of the Board of Education is to determine the school policies and plans, and to evaluate the means of accomplishing the goals: that of the staff is to operate the school program, and carry out the policies and plans. To the student falls the responsibilities of learning the basic knowledges and skills that the school system offers; to enrich his personality with the ideas of beauty, literature, moral values, citizenship, and sportsman- ship to which he is exposed: and to recognize his own integrity as an individual, as well as that of his fellow man. All of these benefit him now, and help prepare him for his adult life. This is a team of which it is well worth being a part, for it reflects the faith of our society in the value of the individual by producing an educational system which can develop an intelligent, informed and responsible citizen capable of taking a positive place in our society of free men-our democracy. The Board of Education is proud of being part of this team. Dan Gerberg 9 PAUL J. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY During the past four years we have worked hard to raise funds for our Washington Trip. In our first year of high school we sold candy, sponsored a successful round and square dance, and finished the year by having our class dinner. A class dinner and Christmas card sales were the highlights of our sophomore year. The junior year was full of many new experiences. We opened the candy store at the beginning of the year. Then the big moment came when our class rings arrived. We had a class dinner in the fall at the Rose School and ended the year by entertaining the Class of '62. Our final year at N.R.C.S. was a busy one, but one that is dear to our hearts. We topped all the other classes in the magazine sales. A lot of work was put into our yearbook and we are proud of this beautiful edition. We all worked hard to make our Senior Play, THE MAGIC TOUCH, the big success that it was. Now our goal has finally come. Our Washington Trip, and in June - Graduation. Memories of our years at N.R.C.S. will linger in our hearts forever. 26 THE MAGIC TOUCH” PRESENTED BY CLASS OF '63 SENIOR PLAY Under the supervision of Miss French, the seniors had another very successful performance on the N.R.C.S. stage. SIDE-LIGHTS Each school in New York State, or any state, has a certain uniqueness which sets it apart from others in the vicinity, even from those of similar size and social background. North Rose Central exhibits an individual- ity acutely noticeable to the critical observer. The most outstanding characteristic of North Rose Central is its student body. Perhaps nowhere in this state will you find a more industrious group. While statistics would be difficult to come by, the visitor to our school can quickly notice the seriousness of purpose of our pupils by looking into study hall during any study period. The individual is supreme at North Rose Cental. Unlike the bulk of our modern schools where the majority sets the pattern, here at North Rose the individual remains the most important single item of focus. The written and unwritten code of our school is to retain the identity of each pupil in all phases of his endeavor. Progress in both academic and non-academic areas has distinguished itself at North Rose. We are one of a handful of schools that provide an elective program for junior high school pupils. Our elementary two-track program in reading and mathematics is not only unique to this area, but to the whole northern section of the state. Our migrant school was the first in the state and remains one of the largest and, certainly, the most thorough programs. The two-track history program in high school is being copied in several area schools. The point system for the senior trip has remained one of the marvels of administration of pupil affairs. The student council and its self-maintained room is the subject of much envy throughout the northcentral area. We were one of the first schools in the state to adopt the state recommended agriculture mechanics program. The physical fitness program was instituted long before the President furnished the nation his plan. Because we are a small school is no excuse to short-change our pupils; they must have the best education available. To this goal we dedicate our minds and our bodies. 44 C. W. The chief aim of the Future Nurses’ Club is to aid students who are interested in the various fields of nursing. Students assist in the nurses' office and at immunization clinics. The students also visit hospitals in the Rochester Council to give them an idea of the rigorous training nursing requires. It is hoped that this information and experience will be helpful in guiding them in the final selection of a career. F. F. A. ROW ONE: C. Tylenda, D. Hall. ROW TWO: P. Burley, R. They didn't keep their fans waiting long as they defeated Sodus 10-4 in the opening game. However, in the next game with Marion, they absorbed their first loss by Marion 6-2. Fired up by this loss, the booters proceeded to defeat Newark, Savannah, Williamson, Red Creek, Wolcott and Savannah before losing to Wayne. They tied Red Creek and defeated Marion to win the Wayne County Championship and the right to compete in the Sectionals. They defeated Wheatland-Chili in the quarter finals, Middlesex Valley in the Semi-final game, but were defeated in the finals 5-0 by a good Hammondsport team. Led by Captains John Hackney and Graham Smith and fellow Seniors David McRoberts and Ed Szachta, the Tigers played a very aggressive brand of soccer. Scorers for the team were: Barry Marshall—17 goals, David McRoberts and John Hackney—6 goals each, Gary McOmber and Adrian Patchen—2 goals each and Fred Carr, Don Maurer, and Gerhart Schumacher—1 goals each for a total of 72 points while limiting the opponents to 32 points.
