■W •V . z - r. ■ North Rose Central School MATER In a quiet little village JuSt below Ontario's blue. Stands our honored Alma Mater Steadfast, staunch, and true; We are loyal sons and daughters Seeking wisdom one by one, Learning lessons that shall aid us. In the years to come; When the parting days are over And we tread life's rugged way, Memories of thee shall linger In our hearts for aye Let us extol her glorious name. Raise her praises to the sky; Thou indeed well beloved. EILEAN NOYES Editor-in-Chief CHARLES ALLEN Class President l)tdkation, CHARLES W. SNYDER, H, S. Principal To you, Mr, Snyder, the Class of 1961 proudly dedicates this, our Rambler. We feel we have a mutual relationship at N.R.C.S. As we have completed our four years of high school, you have likewise given four years of faithful service to our Alma Mater. When we enter eel as Freshmen, you entered as our new high school principal; thus we have shared our ideas and educational experiences during these last four years. Your unceasing patience and helpfulness have contributed greatly to our happiness. Back of your ever-present humor, we feel a certain sternness and steadfastness of pur- pose; in your final decisions regarding our problems, we know you have kept in mind the ultimate good of each of us students. As we leave our Alma Mater, we dedicate to you this yearbook, our storehouse of treasures, which we hope you will cherish and guard faithfully for us throughout the coming years, as we will cherish your friendship and your loyalty to our class. R. C. S. wish to express their sincerest appreciation to “A rt” Maunder, the long-time friend of the students, teachers, and alumni of our Alma Mater. Faithfulness to each task and his knowledge of the work at hand have contributed much in keeping our school a clean, healthy place in which we are proud to be able to work and to learn. “Art” has seen four daughters of his own grad- uate from our school. In the thirty-four years that he has served faithfully, he has seen scores of young people “Enter to learn” and “Go forth to serve.” Our good friend “Art” will always have a warm spot in the heart of all the children who love him, of all teenagers who respect him, and of every teacher who admires him as a loyal friend. On his retirement, the students and teachers felt keenly the loss of a constant friend and willing helper. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. %amomcL MMa 1947 to 1960 greatly missed by her classmates community. _____-______________ Mr. Edinger: Your ideals have inspired us with courage and hope for the future; you have proved your faith in each of us. You have often given us timely advice and have shown us the right path. Your friendship is valued highly by each of us. Mr. Smith: Our appreciation is expressed to Mr. Smith, District Superintendent of Schools who is retiring this year. He has served many faithful years and has worked consistently for the welfare of our schools. Fred Durbin, Elementary Supervisor Mr. Bailey: You have diligently guided each of us in the right choice of a career; you are always willing to give counsel in both our school and personal problems. Your interest in each student is deeply appreciated; we sincerely hope that you will be proud of our achievements in the future. Russell Bailey, Guidance Counselor Supervising Principal, Paul J. Edinger O. M. Smith, Dist. Supt. of Schools Mr. Durbin: With his cheerful smile and open mind, Mr. Durbin is always ready to help and to devote extra time to his students. We appreciate his warm, friendly spirit which has done so much to maintain a fine relationship between the grade stu- dents and the high school pupils. 'Boml off EdjmUoti On Monday evening, when most people are at home comfortably watching tele- vison or enjoying a quiet evening with their family, the members of our Board of Education spend their time and effort in attending the meetings of the Board, and plan- ning worthwhile activities for students and teachers. They provide for us the best textbooks, the best teachers, and the finest school equipment for every department. We, the Seniors of 1961, wish to express our thanks to our Board forthe many hours spent on planning these worthwhile activities and all these educational opportunities. During our Freshman year we had a Candy Sale, Class Supper, and a Bake Sale. Our Sophomore year consisted of a Record Hop, Class Supper, Roller Skating Party, and a Bake Sale. Our Junior and Senior years were really record breakers. In our Junior year all standing records in Snack Bar Sales were broken. We also held a Roller Skating Party, Fire Extinguisher Sale, and a Class Supper. We published our school newspaper, the Scanner, and ended our year as Honor Guard for the Class of '60. Then, with a boy from Sodus, our F.F.A. represented Wayne County at the State Fair. Here N.R.C.S. was represented in Dairy Judging, Showmanship, Vegetable crops, Poultry Judging and Livestock Judging. In January, the boys attended the fruit show in Rochester. Here again, they showed the results of Mr. Gillette’s fine instruction. Various trips were taken throughout the year. The Audio Visual Club meets once a week, on Monday, the fifth period. At this time Mr. Durbin, the advisor, reads off the films to be shown during the week and a member of the club is appointed to show each film. The club is made up of Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and three Seniors. JU fliutia SoJfttq touuM In 1952 New York State pioneered a program leading to greater safety in hunting and gun handling. With the cooperation of the National Rifle Association, certified instructors were enlisted throughout the state. The N R A-trained instructors presented four-hour courses and tests in safe gun handling to all persons under the age of twenty-one, who wished to purchase a hunting license. During the last session of the State Legislature two new laws were passed. The first extended the 1952 law to include all persons, regardless of age, to take and pass the Hunter Safety Course before they could be licensed (unless they could show proof of previously been licensed or certified by a hunter safety instructor. The second law placed the Hunter Safety instructors totally under New York State jurisdiction, thus allowing the N R A to withdraw from the program. The Hunter Safety Course is given in the North Rose Central School four times each year. In the last three years, sixty-seven boys and girls have been certified. To date none of these has had an accident. 64 —| 73 O O ROW ONE: E. Noyes, K, Powell, A. Austin. ROW TWO: A. Bastian, J. Poole, S. Edinger, M. VanKouwen- berg, B. McQueen. J. Hixon, S. Carr, E.
