✓ THE SENIORS PRESENT N. R. C. S. RAMBLER NORTH ROSE CENTRAL SCHOOL 1954 The Seniors are proud to present this Yearbook to you, our friends, in the school and the community, sharing with you our many experiences and achieve- ments. We sincerely believe that-“Today well-lived makes every yesterday a dream, and ever) tomorrow a vision of hope.” WE HONOR To Our Parents— We, the Class of '54, wish to express our deep appreciation to you for all the things you have done for us through all of our years in school. We realize how many sacri- fices you have made so that we might have a high school education. Besides the mate- rial support which you have given, you have advised us about our problems and encour- aged us whenever we were discouraged. We Seniors hope that we may always be worthy of the continual and unselfish in- terest that you maintain in us, and that we may fulfill the hopes that you hold for us. We know that sometimes we have seemed to take everything that you do for granted, but we really are very thankful for all of your consideration and help. As one way of expressing our profound gratitude, we want to dedicate the ”1954 Rambler” to you, the Parents of the Senior Class.” Let us extol her glorious name. Raise her praises to the sky; Thou indeed are well-beloved, Dear old North Rose High. We are loyal sons and daughters, Seeking wisdom, one by one, Learning lessons that shall aid us In the years to come. When the parting days are over And we tread life’s rugged way. Memories of thee shall linger In our hearts for aye. BOARD OF EDUCATION This is the year that: On our census there were 985 pupils. A new Art program was started with a full time Art teacher. A guidance program is under way with a part-time Guidance Director. The remaining two contract districts. Rose No. 5 and Huron No. 2 became a part of the Central School District in July 1953. The exempt class of employees was extended Social Security under approval date 12 31 53 retroactive to September 1953« School news appeared in the Lake Shore News , our local weekly newspaper. An average of 408 lunches were served per day in both schools. Both Junior and Senior High School Guidance Committees functioned effectively in group discussions of individual pupil problems. Necessary alterations were made and equipment purchased for the Annex near the school to facilitate its use for the in- creased number of students in Grades I and 2. New band uniforms were purchased for the Senior Band. A Junior Band of thirty members has been organized and the Senior Band has increased to thirty-four members. A small fry basketball program for boys aged 8-12 was started to teach them the fundamentals of basketball, on Saturday mornings. The F.F.A. planted beans on four acres of land owned by the Central School District as a continuation of a project started last year. A circular driveway was built improving the conditions for loading the buses and providing a larger parking area. The above facts indicate progress in our school. They prove that our greatest investment is in the lives of boys and girls of our community, through helping them to become good citizens. L. to R.: S. Oaks, H. Welkley, W. Baldridge, R. McQueen, President; G. Marshall, C. Charoplin, L. Gowers. PAUL J. EDINGF.R, SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL OUR PRINCIPAL Dear Mr. Edinger: If we attempted to convey to you in full what your able guidance, your friend- ship and your helpfulness have meant to us through our school years, we would find it a difficult task in- deed. For your gifts” of time and effort spent in helping us with our in- dividual problems, and in being an efficient and wise administrator cannot easily be repaid. Our only hope is that we may, in our lives, prove ourselves worthy of your guidance, and that your untiring work for us will not be unmerited. For everything, Mr. Ed- inger, we say — 'Thank you,” and although it is a brief and inadequate way to express our deep grati- tude, it is heartfelt and completely sincere. “APPRECIATION” We, the Seniors of N.R.C.S., wish to entend our sincerest gratitude to our secretaries, Jo ce and Marian, for their thoughtful- ness. On June 25, 1954, another class, eager to face life and its problems, will be graduated on the stage from North Rose Central School. Our class won’t be remembered as just another Senior Class” but as one which achieved great accomplishments and broke several class records. We, the Class of ’54, have had wonderful high school days together, but we will long remember our memorable Senior year. We started the year with a bang, by breaking all records in our magazine drive—topping last year’s record by $400. In November we surpassed all previous senior play ticket sales. $324.05 worth of tickets were sold by the Seventh Grade, and a record crowd attended our produc- tion The Baby Sitter.” In our most successful yearbook advertising campaign, we topped last year’s sales by $80. We were able to turn the candy store and pop- corn machine over to the Juniors on February first. Our Senior Play will long be remembered as hilarious, with top-notch acting. Our Class Night was original and entertaining. We ail enjoyed working together on these projects, and because of their suc- cess, we were able to take our long-awaited trip to Washington, D. C. We appreciate all that Mr. Edinger and our teachers have done to help us in all our school activities. BABY SITTER” SENIOR PLAY - CLASS OF 1954 18 Ron 1, L. to R.: L. Clingerman, N. Doolittle, G. We also started our profitable Christmas Card sale in October. November was an exciting month for the Jolly Juniors”, too, for we ordered our class rings, which arrived on February 17. The gaily decorated Junior room was the scene of a fun-packed grab-bag party two days before Christmas, complete with music and dancing in the gym. We began the management of the candy store and popcorn machine in February, and sponsored the All- School Plays. We sold and took tickets at all home basketball games and received the proceeds of two games. This year was one of the busiest, yet happiest, of our school career; certainly one which will be remem- bered for years to come. 19 CLASS OF 1956 Row 1, L. to RD. Smith, M. Harrison, L. Poole, L. Everyone donned their raggedest rags for Poor Richard’s Day, January 18. Suggestion boxes were placed in the homerooms of grades 7-12, and we found the ideas of the students interesting and helpful. During the year, we have established a CARE package program, in which each class sends one package. The classes also have participated in excellent devotional assemblies for special occasions. A major project in the spring was the planning of the annual Honor Banquet, at which outstanding school citizens are honored. The main objective of Student Council is to give students a voice in student government and help put their ideas into effect. 31 Row 1, L. to R.: Pianist, S. McQueen; M. Seager, B. Patchen, D. We show movies during our study halls when they are requested. In November the Audio-Visual Club went to Rochester to the Eastman House, and observed some old movie projectors, as well as some of the modern equipment. 36 NAME Elaine Akins Robert Austin Arden Avery Roger Bastian Earl Briggs Charles Catchpole Lynda Catchpole Carol Collins Gertrude DeVay Paul Dickinsoo Leon Frazer Thelma Gillette Mar Tin Harper Donald Hartley Loa Jane Jewell Phyllis Kise Shirley LaVaUey Suzanne McQueen William Peck Carolyn Poole Mvlyn Price Jane Rose Marilyn Skutt Shirley Spencer Clara Wigfield Miss French Mr. Gregory SENIOR SCOOPS PROBABLE FAVORITE FAVORITE NICKNAME BIRTHDAY FUTURE MAJOR PET PEEVE PASTIME FOOD Buzzy Apr. 30 Hair dresser Homemaking Conceited people Singing Steak Nate Nov. 7 State trooper Business Typing Hunting and Fishing Spanish Rice Artie Aug. 3 Farming Agriculture Getting up Going to Brockport Hamburgers Bert Apr. 30 Farmer Agriculture 8th period study hall Sports Spaghetti Archie Apr. 3 Farmer Agriculture Ag. room Playing basket- ball Anything hut Pumpkin Pie Chuck Apr. 26 Ag-col lege Math-Science Automatic chokes Traveling to Sod us Pt. Many new cheers were introduced during the spirited basket- ball season and the crowd supported us enthusiastically. We would like to express our appreciation to Miss Lyon and Mrs. Beauter, who spent so many hours with us, and to the loyal students who supported us, to make our season the most suc- cessful. Poole, Coach Beauter. VARSITY BASKETBALL This year’s Varsity Squad ended the season of regular league play with the same record as last year---8 wins and 8 losses. This was not quite good enough to take the Wayne County Championship, so a play-off game with Red Creek was necessary. Red Creek came out the winner---55-46. The highlights of the season were our two upsets over the high-powered Pal Macs, and our win over Red Creek in an overtime play. Don Hartley with 317 points and Jack Price with 130 points paced the offensive attack. Chuck Catchpole—a good play maker, Tom Hickey-------an excellent scrapper, and Paul Dickinson—a good ball handler, made up the rest of the first string. Jack Bates also worked in the first string occasionally, and contributed greatly to our wins. Backing these boys were Don McMahon, Earl Champlin, Gary Fuller, Dick Noyes, Carl Clinger- man, and Ronnie Matteson. The team appreciated the enthusiastic support given our school this year by the students and friends in the community. The most heartbreaking loss of the season was a defeat of 2 points by the Wayne Central team. One of the best games of the year was the second game with Sodus, where they avenged their previous defeat by winning, 42-27. R. Noyes, G. Fuller, C. Davenport, Mr. Amyot, R. Matteson. TENNIS In 1953 Richard Noyes and Gary Fuller represented the North Rose tennis team in the first and second singles re- spectively. Carl Davenport and Ronald Matteson composed the doubles team. These boys did very well in league games with Lyons, Clyde, and Wolcott, under the able leadership of Coach George Amyot. Our N.R.C.S. hooters gave the majority of the op- posing teams as good a scrap as could be expected. This year’s team was ver good defensively but lacked an aggressive scoring punch. How- ever, we all owe these bo s much credit for their fine efforts. Well done, boys!
