On Valentme s Day we enjoyed our party We had a very pretty box to hold our many valentmes It was n1ce to see sprmg come agam so we could play outdoors m comfort, although we hke the wmter too Fourth Grade Nme boys and exght g1rls began the fourth grade Edna Zornes and Bonnie Taylor entered and Roy Lohr and Sandra Poland wxthdrew We had a spelllng contest w1th the thxrd grade We were very glad that we won the prlze, an extra long play pe nod Robert Camp broke h1s leg a few weeks before Chrxstmas We were happy to have hlm back to school after a speedy recovery Spellmg and Arxthmetlc are our favor1te subjects although we hke readmg too We have some new puzzles that we enjoy very much At Easter we made many nxce p1ctures for our bulletm board Fzfth Grade When the school term opened eleven gxrls and s1x boys enrolled and our number has remamed unchanged We had a Columbus Day project and lncluded an Indxan scene w1th It At Halloween Thanksglvmg Chrlstmas and Easter we made a fneze to decorate our room A mask party was held at Halloween At Chrlstmas t1me we had a n1ce tree and the day before vacatmn started we had a gzft exchange and a n1ce December meetmg Comlc and educatlonal movles were enjoyed durmg the year, partzcularly the one of Holland Mrs Klassen told us many mterestmg happenmgs She also d1splayed a pau' of wooden shoes wh1ch she brought wxth her from her former home U1 Holland when she came to the U S to jo1n her husband at Chnstrnas tzme We had our usual good tlme at the fuxal day p1cn1c and are already lookmg forward to next year S1xth Grade At the begmnmg of the second week of school Ahce Carnahan joxned us later Vlrguua Rossman came Mary Poland and Vxrgznxa Lohr moved to other schools leavmg us eleven gzrls and fwe boys We have some good hbrary books 1n our room and fmnd that they are valu able when we wrxte book reports for Englzsh lessons By asslstmg w1th the magazme drxve early ln the year and later sellmg seeds we have realxzed a mce sum towards our play equzpment Throughout the year we have sent cards and letters to Gerald Van Horne who 15 unable to attend school due to zllness We also sent small remembrances to Ahce Carnahan who was 111 for s1.x weeks Z3 lunch. We also assisted the other grades in entertaining the P.T.A. at the

Fzrst Grade Twenty seven fxrst graders embarked upon their school careers on Sep tember 6 1949 Of th1s number Beth Barton Dale Poland Mary Lawrence and Norma Lohr wmthdrew to go to other schools Everyone enjoyed the new slxde and other playground equzpment durmg the sunny fall months Decoratmg the room for spec1al hohdays makmg Chnstmas glfts and playmg 111 the rhythm band gave many a thr1ll However most of our tlme was spent :Ln readmg spellmg prmtmg and computmg numbers We also had many stones and health lessons In May we had a very n1ce party for prospect1ve first graders for 1950 1951 and thelr mothers We are all lookmg forward to next year School IS fun' Second Grade Our second year of school has made us feel very grown up Many of our boys and glrls had b1rthdays durmg the school year These we re spec1a1 days Some of them brought candy or cook1es for a party We made our own blrthday cards for everyone Durmg the year Lavada Mullms and Phllxp Howard left our class and Mary Louxse Zornes enrolled Halloween was fun' Some of us came dressed lzke older people wltches ghosts and even pzrates We made masks from paper bags At Chmstmas tlme we made a large pmcture wxth chalk It told the story of Mary Joseph and the baby Jesus Our room had other sxgns of Chrmstmas too We decorated the tree and exchanged g1fts We have worked hard durmg the year too As we learned more new words we were able to read many mterestmg stones Our room has many books m 1ts hbrary that we can read by ourselves Every week our paper, The Weekly Reader brought us news of happemngs that we should k.now about It brought us fun too for an elephant and monkey were always havmg trouble On Valentme s Day we felt just lxke postmen All of us made our own Valentme box and we each dellve red mall to the others At Easter txme we felt as though sprzng were really commg and we made plctures to thxs effect as well as some of the Easter theme Th :rd Grade F1fteen boys and ten gxrls began the thlrd grade Harold Carnahan entered the flrst s1x weeks Gardelxa Mullms wxthdrew the second and Annabelle Zornes entered a few weeks later We Jomned the fourth grade m makmg handkerch1ef holders for our mothers for Chrxstmas Thls was fun as well as makmg somethmg very useful for our mothers ZZ O Q ' .
