GRADE TEACHERS GUIDED STUDENT SITTING: Mrs. Phyllis I-Iesterman, Mrs. Margery Bostelman, Mrs. Marian Kauffman, Mrs. Helen Landman. STANDING: Mr. Richard Watkins, Mrs. Agnes Schult, Mrs. Thelma Detter, Miss Betty Miller, Mrs. Martha C. Otte, Mrs. Lucille Meyer, Mr. Michael Leson. The guiding lights down the paths of education are held by teachers. It is not impossible to make the journey down these paths without a light, but the way does not seem as difficult with a lamp to guide. It is not easy for teachers to direct the students on their way. Knowledge, understanding, patience and even a sense of humor are required. But together the students and teachers learned and grew for the few brief months of the school year. Then it is time for the students to again proceed further down the path until they finally meet a greater teacher--life. Forty-one migrant students were enrolled for special classes during the month of September. fRightQ Mrs. Thelma Short is shown performing her teaching duties. 66

READING OPENED .NE W l ORLDS Upon arrival at school at the beginning of the year, the first and second graders were greeted by new teachers and a few new classmates. Besides becoming acquainted with these names and faces, the first and second graders soon adjusted to the other changes of another school year. Before long the first graders found that they could actually read--at least a few words. Excited about this fact, they joined in frequent trips to the library with the second graders, whose vocabulary and ability were constantly growing. Other high points of the year were Halloween cos- tume parties and Christmas parties, and the operetta put on by grades 1-6. The first and second graders played Dutchman, Japanese, and Indians and learned much about these people in getting ready for the presentation. Another of the several teachers of the migrant classes was Mrs. Marie Benecke. fRightj she is seen with her group of youngsters.
