COA CHES BUILT MEN THRU GH A THLETICS Behind every successful team lies a coach. This especially held true for Ridgeville's five athletic teams, as the four coaches pictured here successfully molded men out of the boys who played under them. Handling the greatest variety of coaching chores was head basketball coach Dan Norris. This past season, his third at Ridgeville, Coach Norris' squad came up with the best record of his coaching career, 13-7. In addition to varsity basketball, Coach Norris also took charge of reserve basketball, Jr. High base- ball, and cross country. In his fourth year at Ridgeville, varsity baseball coach Les Gerken's team came through with a mod- erately successful season. With the aid of Coach Randy Pickerel, Coach Gerken also took over the rest of the basketball chores. He coached the Freshman team, while Coach Pickerel directed the Junior High. Besides the three previously mentioned sports, Ridgeville added two new ones to its athletic program this year--wrestling and track. Mr. Michael Handler and Mr. Michael Leson guided the wrestling squad, and Mr. Charles Meyer fnot picturedj conducted the track team to a fourth-place finish in the first annual Henry County Laegue Track Meet for all the A schools in the county. fAbove rightj Mr. Dan Norris, QRightj Mr. Lester Gerken, fBelow rightj Mr. Randy Pickerel, fBelowj Mr, Michael Handler and Mr. Michael Leson.
