They 'have been, as the English critic W. H. Pater wrote, . . . able to think calmly, and with a very practical affection, of a world in which they have no direct share. To their unselfishness, their sacrifice, their patience, and their guidance, We owe our triumphs, our joys, our bittersweet moments, our very existence. 4 SHADOW MEMORIES OF SEN I URS COMME CEMENT May 21, 1965 After the processional, the senior class, the Junior escorts, and the audience stand While the invocation is given by the Reverend Carl E. Not only is she the elementary music teacher, but also has charge of the choruses. Mrs, Engler's time and effort is aimed in teaching the jr. High Chorus, the Girls' Chorus, and the Teen Troupe. ln addition, each year she directs a suc- cessful operetta, given by the elementary. During the 1964 -65 marching season, the band was lead by these eight girls. They are Ceclia Beck, Cindy Eggers, Bonnie Engler, Sue Otte, Sue Ann I-Iogrefe, Sue Ann Norden and Sheryl Bremer. Ridgeville's Superior-rated band owes its style and pre- cision to Mr. Engler's painstaking and patient direction. His diligent work, along with the long hours of practice by the band members, gained the band a Superior Rating at the District Contest at Bowling Green, Ohio. This then enabled them to compete in the State Finals at Ash- land, Ohio. During the course of a year, the eighty- seven members of the Ridgeville Band are very busy. They perform many times, both at parades and concerts. Their parade activities include Memorial Day, Bryan jubilee, Henry County Fair, Harvest Festival at Holgate, Firemen's Convention, Christmas Parade, and Halloween Parade. The Band Parents sponsor both an annual Pan- cake Sr Sausage Supper and an lce Cream Social. The members of the band prepare and present a Christmas Program and a Spring Concert . Each year the band is asked to perform at the High School Nite festivities and Commencement. Along with these many activities, the members enjoy giving exchange concerts with area schools and just playing for their own enjoyment, 54 SHADUW MEMORIES UF UNDER CLA SS wh',g1.a'?Qn'.iifw'Qilxafwfftil'w,g'e511ifm'-fy , ..,.,. . il: 1,, ,.,, L ., E, l em W an we iw W We WE , v ,asm s f S2916 ,s .15 515556 fi it 5525 f. April 2 was the date of the annual elementary op- eretta, presented by grades four, five, and six. The story of the play was of the adventures of Tom Sawyer and his many friends. Tom's Aunt Polly tries to be stern, but is always won over by his amusing antics. Tom, Huck Finn, and joe Harper run away from home and spend the night on a deserted island. The folks at home think the boys are dead and as a climax, the three at- tend their own funeral. The entire program is filled with suspenseful and exciting adventure . The cast members busily make last minute pre- parations before the actual performance.
