What is the next alternative? This brings us to the party scene. Strangely enough, for an otherwise humdrum town, North Read- ing is given to raucous bashes and hearty parties. For many, a party is not considered a success unless half of the town’s minimal police force shows up to “enforce law and order.” Though most seniors are under 21 (though some have been in high school long enough to be earning retirement pay), we all seem able to partake of some form of liquid refreshment. Parties have several habitats. Some inhabit homes in which parents have been eliminated for the evening or have been bludgeoned senseless with the television or other hypnotic means. The stronger species may be found around campfires in the deep woods. In the summer, some may even migrate to the sandy shores of the eastern seaboard. And what of the typical “ party animal?” We’re all heard the term before. However, after much research, one is forced to conclude that there is no such thing as a typical beast. There are those that wear ragged jeans and faded “Aerosmith” shirts; there are those clad in Calvins and silk; and there are those in between. Yet they all have one thing in common; a love of excitement, noise, and people. Though it seems that partying constitutes the majority of in- town attractions, some brave souls can venture into the bowling alleys or the arcade; some contemplate cars, chicks, and ere ation for hours on end in the parking lots at Zayre or Atlantic. What options are left? Well ask Dad for the keys and head OUT of town! 11
