i Social activities . . . just about the biggest part of many seniors’ lives. Bitten by the senioritis bug, restless with freedom, seniors crave variety and excitement in their evenings. Yet what exactly is there to do in good ol’ N.R. after 8 pm? Well, for one, we have a cinema. Oops, forgot — it’s going to be remodelled into something more useless. Scratch one op- tion. Besides, only sophomores without licenses and juniors without money see movies in town. What else? Ryer’s store has always been a popular hangout. Where else can you relax with a slush, chat with your friends, and discuss future plans? Of course, this activity pales after about three weeks. Next alterna- tive, please! North Reading does boast a few restaurants. We have Kitty’s if you enjoy all-natural pizza (recycled, that is), Kelly’s Oyster House if you prefer fresh-from-the-freezer seafood, and the Hornet’s Nest if you’re into soggy sandwiches. There’s the oh- so-classy MacWong’s; however, the new Hong Kong seems to be leading in the Chinese food race. For a decent pizza, one can drop by Brother’s or Captain Pizza, two of the few places that don’t boast beyond their expectations. However, these places (with the exception of Brother’s) do not constitute “hangouts”, and are merely viewed as refilling stations for seniors in search of fun. Some representative 10
