Always teasing and always mean Lifting girls dresses and making them scream Flutaphones, cooties, and childish games Kickball and recess were the fun for the day No one regretted saying Good-bye We looked forward to entering the big Junior High. Junior High (the prison?), our school for a while Offered few privileges with assigned studies in style. It sure was an awkward and inbetween stage Stubborn and tough but still sensitive at that age Remember dances, music class, and detention Writing on desks, passing notes, the lavs should we mention? Braces for all and some things that were new Like sports. Graduation, and trivia questions to mention a few. Trying new things, oh the fights and the hate No chewing gum, no cuts. Don’t forget Break! The Bicentennial, a memorable event for us in the eighth grade. Brought some spirit with the time capsule we made Our Junior High and the horrible days that we had But as we look back they weren’t really that bad. 3 FLASHBACKS 1977 “I have worked hard, laughed deeply, felt impatient, tried and succeeded and have known failure as well. I have ar- gued, selfishly disrupted and cooper- ated, worked and given beyond my share. I have helped others grow and this filled me with satisfaction, for I know that the cycle continues.” anon. 12 I 1 We use the word devoted to describe your combined efforts to support and lead this class. You have made us very proud while leading us along the way in our pur- suit of excellence. Sincere thanks to Tom Gregory, Brian Lee, Debbie Jackson, and Dennis Ford. T. Gregory — Pres., D. Miss Smith, Miss Dardeno, Mr. Miller GENEROUS UNDERSTANDING MPARTIAL DEPENDABLE attentive NURTURING CONTRIBUTING EFFICIENT 70 DEDICATION Born and raised in Iowa on a seven hundred and fifty acre farm, Walter Miller has had much experience in hand- ling large numbers of animals (otherwise known as seniors)! Mr. Miller started working at North Reading High School in 1963 as a math teacher and coached football until 1970. He also coordinates all the special ed. services for the students. Before entering the North Reading school system Claudia Dardeno was a staff member at I.B.M. and held a high status job. Miss D. came to North Reading High School to teach Bussiness classes. She then moved to the Guidance department in 1970. Miss D. is much appreciated for her sense of humor. Mr. Miller and Miss D. hard at work as usual! ' ■ .(I 71 Guidance is a place where advice can be found as is depicted here. Senior year is one of the most difficult times in our lives. It is one of the first turning points during which we need experienced and informed people to attend to us. Our Guidance counselors have provided us with this help. They aid us in our decisions about colleges and career selections. Their range of advice varies correspondingly from selecting classes to personal problems, and they are very good listeners. We may seek them for a pass to class or maybe even an arrangement for a date to the prom, but sometimes just to talk to. It is often said that Guidance people are the people to see immediately in “a matter of life and death.” Many thanks for all the sharing, caring, and guidance you’ve given us. Guidance represents the students and most of all they are our friends. Tennis and sailing occupy much of Jennifer Smith’s time. She originally came to North Reading High School to do her practicum and remained as a guidance counselor. 72 FACULTY WILL Mr. Kenney — clean hallways Mr. Barressi — a year with no cuts Miss Dardeno — a matchmaker Mr. Miller — His own military group M iss Smith — another year of college visits Mr. Dever — another year as head of the English Department M rs. There is an energy in us which makes things happen when the paths of other persons touch ours and we have to be there and let it happen When the time of our particular sunset comes our thing, our accomplishment won’t really matter a great deal But the clarity and care with which we have loved others will speak with vitality of the great gift of life we have been for each other. Who knows? Maybe free! Depressions will come. Along with the joy. Every day will be born A girl and boy. We may be doctors or lawyers. Or actors, maybe tourists! Whatever we are. Wherever we may be. There will be some that are sad, unfortunately! But most will be happy, hopefully! We will carry each tradition. And make our very own. We’ll remember these days. And look ahead with anticipation! With each flaming sunset. There’s a bright sunrise. With each sunrise. There’s a brand new surprise . . . The future! s.c. SPONSORS Mr. Arthur J. Kenney Mr. + Mrs. Max A. Mueller Mr. + Mrs. Arthur J.
