When i asked what this job would entail, i was told to find out what everyone in the class of 74 was doing in approximately 10 years, i wasn ' t sure if it could be done, but i had to try it didn ' t take long for me to collect my first bits of information, as i had a doctor ' s appointment at the james a. bourgeois medical center, since there would be a short wait, i began reading the new york times, which featured a front page story by mike anderson about astronauts margaret pietrasz and carol white — our first women in space, the article also contained an interview with flight programmer paul jean, and was accompained by an exclusive katie alien photo. medical secretary kathy mctague then directed me to dr. david berton ' s office, which was just beyond .he office of noted brain surgeon edgar o ' brien and his two private nurses, deb and sharon o ' brien. seeing that i was somewhat overweight, dr. berton advised me to see dietician deb ansourlian. after meet- ing with her, i passed moe brennan and nancy canavan, who were headed for a national nurse ' s conven- tion in the far wing of the hospital, before they left, however, i caught a glimpse of their clipboard and noticed several familiar names: linda potter, joan savioli, kim serventi, donna sidilou, jane Stewart and donna whitehorn. while waiting for an elevator to lead me out of this building, i scanned the hospital directory and saw that many other former classmates also worked here, jan mcdevitt, barb ray, pam surette and jean tymin- ski were all physical therapists, and cheryl lisby was involved in occupational therapy, in addition, kathy fay, gail longo, and elaine meshna were employed as medical technicians, and anne lawson was now working with the mentally retarded, at the same time, i overheard a conversation inside the office of child psychiatrist barb miani. how will i break the tie? leea blasi exclaimed, i have four girls and four boys with one more on the way! for some reason this reminded me of my lunch date with housewives julie dignard, brenda pitcher and brenda vachon. we planned to meet at sambo ' s, the most popular restaurant in the area, since it was crowded, we decided to sit at the bar, where kevin lee served us. he remarked that his wife, the former diane d ' entremont, and kathi brady were flying to madrid with the airlines, after being given our drinks we noticed that drinking champion lynne neubauer was at the bar, as well as ron arsenault, john magazzu and Corbin mansfield. john informed us that his wife, sara, was now a cosmotologist working with hair- dresser kathy rush. as waitress dawn griffin showed us to our table, we learned that ken bickford and paul proudy were the head chefs, while feasting on a delicious meal, i found that we were surrounded by some very familiar faces, newlyweds angelo and janice (mitchell) piazza occupied one booth, and the foursome of wayne dalton, judy lohnes, scott macneil and janet mccarthy sat at another. since it was still early, we decided to take in a new broadway show, which starred michele drabant and art waller, and was directed by jan coleman. as the lights dimmed i glanced at my program, where i no- ticed that mike conrad, donna gentile, dick lowe, and judy mahoney would be playing in the orchestra. after an enjoyable show i walked toward my car, but before doing so i was stopped in the lobby by paul o ' leary, wayne Strickland, and vin vullo, all millionaires, and financial advisor don schemack. after talking for a short time, i left for my hotel, along the way i picked up three hitchikers: gary day, greg pearce, and wally smith, it was only a few minutes later, though, that we were hit from behind by a blue corvette, looking into my rear view mirror, i was shocked to see that the passengers in the other car were none other than mugs hobby, scott mckenzie, joel parry, and heather Stephen, officers dan berridge and dave cote arrived quickly on the scene, before they could say anything, i heard lester carl yell, anybody need a tow? , as he and mike correalle jumped out of their truck. i then watched officer berridge walk over to question witness debbie donnelly (who was stopped at a gas station owned by dan didonato and craig fuller), but she refused to become involved, however, mugs said that she would get in touch with tom o ' hare, her attorney, while scott told me that he would contact his insurance man dick schaefer. after the dust cleared i learned that my own passengers were already late for the start of mike day ' s rock festival, so they hitched a ride with gray sherman and george vorrilas, who were racing along at 83 mph . 167 i spent a restful night at john weaver ' s holiday hut, which was managed by paul monaco. i was awoken at 7:30 by karl bearor of room service, who delivered a continental breakfast, before leaving he also in- formed me that politician paula quinlan once slept in the same room. while eating i switched on the t.v. and heard the voice of sportscaster tom crowley, who was congratu- lating don macmillan and dennis wilson on their fine performances in the wayne p. stanuchenski golf classic, held in rio de Janeiro, he also announced that veteran defenseman s cumming will represent the Chicago black hawks as an n.h.l. all star for the 6th consecutive year, before turning over the micro- phone, he mentioned that dave white, manager of the world champion boston red sox, was retiring fol- lowing a dispute with the team ' s owner. i then heard the voice of motor-mouth Stratton, who came on with the news about town. she re- ported that famous ballerina claire batchelder has been seen tiptoeing around with prominent business man nathan foss. margie went on to say that peter bertolino ' s air conditioning business hadn ' t cooled off the romance between he and paula murray, graduate from the world renown berkeley art school. much to my disbelief, margie stopped talking long enough to turn the broadcast over to weatherman joseph pecevich, who forecasted thundershowers for today, knowing joe as i once did, i figured it should be a great day for the beach, so i gathered together my belongings and prepared to check out. as i paid the bill, desk secretary sharon nix handed me the guest book to sign, before doing so, howev- er, i skimmed over the list of names that would appear above mine and recognized many of them: barry aiello, gina filliger, doug freeman, pam lucas, sheila sullivan, rick svehla and dawn valiton, to name a few. it also appeared as though mike and liz (silvia) capillo had spent their honeymoon here several years ago, as their names were located in the beginning of the book, finally, i left. on my way to the beach i decided to stop at the drug store to buy some suntan lotion, an interesting arrangement existed here, for i learned that the store was cooperatively managed by Steve batchelder, dave bellegarde, and mark proctor, as i made my purchase, accountants barb ivester and john wade men- tioned that private eye debra peskin had recently investigated the financial situation, but no problems arose. it seemed as though everyone had the same idea that i did, for cars were backed up to the ocean front home of marine biologist chris losso. among the crowds i was able to distinguish many faces from my past, including debbie buck, Stephanie cogliano, gary duhaine, mark griffin, roberta jackle, chris Oliver and mike taylor. i also spotted hawk coffill and will currier running the length of the beach, as they were practicing for the upcoming boston marathon. as i continued walking, i noticed that greg Stewart was the lifeguard at this section of the beach, he remarked that biochemist Steve lynch had just taken off to sail the atlantic coast, stew then pointed in the direction of the upper dunes, where photographer ed snow was busily taking pictures of model laurel wheeler, i knew that i had been out in the sun too long when i saw karolyn Stafford struggling along the shore in her ice skates, it must have been a mirage! while returning to my car, i was almost struck by falling bricks from a roadside construction site, i looked up to see who was responsible for the near catastrophe, and found that hank leach and ed wright were the foremen, as john baby, greg churchill, dan mckean, and joe stitsel cleaned up the debris, i heard hank say that the incident would have to be reported to engineer peter anderson. after my narrow escape i decided to take a trip to france to get away from it all. as i boarded the plane i was greeted by stewardesses sue bailey, merilee genzler, barbara lynch and ann mcsheehy, who in- formed me that our pilot would be robert avjian. above the roar of the engines i could hear the voices of philosopher marc pelletier and minister john strong engaged in a heated discussion over the destiny of man. not being able to hold their tongues any longer, sociologists jean dobson and karen mitchell also joined the debate. as our flight neared its end, i saw world famous astronomer anthony carbone, who was travelling to at- rica to witness a total eclipse of the sun. he was also accompanied by donna mcsheehy and ann mootrey who planned to photograph the phenomena. , , after a somewhat rough landing, i felt a throbbing pain in my mouth, i rushed directly to the information desk to find myself a dentist, the information clerk, patty furey, then handed me a list of the dental personnel in the area, i immediately recognized the name of dr. david higgins, so i decided to visit my old pal. once inside his office he introduced me to his dental hygienists bonnie macfarland and tern vullo. they mentioned that kathy peffers was an orthodontist ' s assistant in the same building, feeling 168 much better i thought i ' d take in some sights. my first stop was the louvre where i observed great works of art by former classmates dee datillo, sue kropa, peter rich and debbie Stackhouse, after an interesting tour of the museum, i left for my hotel, le Citroen”, which was owned and managed by mark rideout, after checking into my room i noticed the bulletin board of coming events which publicized a spring fashion show featuring some of judy king ' s latest designs, an article was also posted announcing the commencement of the tour de france, (the famed bicycle race), and mentioned that two americans would be participating: terry enos and laurie howe. michael francis, the hotel porter, showed me to my room, in pointing out the newly installed bath fa- cilities, he proudly told me that craig rasmussen was the hotel ' s plumber, after a quick shower, i went right to bed. the next morning i was awaken by a knock at the door, when i opened the door, john mcdevitt handed me a special delivery telegram from the united states and he mentioned that his work was con- nected with the civil service department. anxious to open my telegram, i said good-bye to john. the message informed me of an emergency teachers convention back in the states and i had to leave immediately to make it home on time, hurriedly i got dressed, checked out, and signaled for a cab. i was amazed as jack belanger pulled up to the curb, i got in the taxi and heard some familiar names — david foster, Steve hartery, robin ramage, judy sasso, karen serrechia and maryann perry — being mentioned on the radio broadcast, jack explained to me that they were business people affiliated with europe ' s common market. i arrived at the airport and pushing through a crowd of people, i could not help but notice maureen balich, carol callahan, brian carignan, cindy george and gail mcdermott. they all looked happy as they were waving good-bye to terry wirtz and cheryl zeimetz who were with their spouses, flight secretary debbie peck gave me my ticket, as i was getting on the plane i was attracted to the white uniform of naval officer nancy santolucito. i got a window seat on the plane and looking across the aisle i spotted michael cohan and ann dickey, who told me they were preparing a biological speech to be orated at m.i.t. they wanted a break from their work so i suggested we join the cocktail party going on at the rear of the plane, we met many of our cronies in the lounge; among them, nancy centarrino, linda chappee, penny col- burne and john joyce. sharon duckak, martha endicott and lee fitzgerald were talking to Stephen gosine, bobby green and sue gresek. we glanced over in the corner and saw betsy gleason laughing uncontrolla- bly at tony vadala ' s jokes, as aris kourbetsos and Steve welch looked on smiling, i saw margaretta callamer in the crowd, and she mentioned to me that she had been an english interpreter in Sweden, and was going back to america for a visit. the time went by so quickly that i was surprised when the stewardesses instructed us to go back to our seats and prepare to land. as i was getting off of the plane, a large crowd was assembled at the airport, deb picciuto was the center of attraction as she made her campaign speech on women ' s liberation, tina courossi, doreen ingram, deb- |bie mcleod, chris mcneil, tina nett, sally parker, donna russ ell, and deb twomey seemed to be avid sup- porters as they helped campaign managers pat murphy and jeanne spindler hand out phamplets to the crowd, two others in the crowd were dan french, and ken smith. i had to rush off to be on time for the late afternoon session of the teacher ' s convention, once there, i met with teachers cheryl atkinson, james davis, pat fumicello, joanne jeannes, ann murphy and patty weir, lynn dalton, secretary, noted the final minutes of the meeting and the convention was adjourned. my work behind me, but not yet fully relaxed, i thought i ' d go to the mountains for a complete rest, the raymond j. reynolds forest seemed perfect for a vaction! on my way up the mountain, i recognized forest rangers sally hughes, ed o ' brien, and Steve ridgley with conservationist mike chandler, exhausted from my long climb, i collapsed beneath the shade of a tall pine tree and fell into a deep sleep i woke up with the sun streaming in my face and i suddenly realized i was not under a tree in a wooded forest, but in my own apartment, and in my lap was my invitation to the tenth year reunion of the class of 1974 . 169
