I I i , L O Q Q - Ili A i I I. -U . 5 -11 f S v., We just beat Quincy? Coach Jack Donahue and his able assistants began this year's wor- ries over our undersized and inexperienced Raiders with the tirst work- outs. After three weeks of intensive drills, the team journeyed to Stoughton for its season's opener. After a valiant but unsuccessful bid for victory, the green Raiders were turned back by the Black Knights. On the following Saturday the I-lingham Harbormen sailed up to engage North at the Stadium. Led by Ist and 2nd mates Al johnson and Pete Bartoloni, the Raider battleship scuttled the Harbormen I8- 6. Against Milton, the Raiders scored quickly thanks to the outstand- ing line play of Charley Sheehan and Brian Connerty and went on to outscore the XVhiz Kids 20-o. YVith the North forces never conceding, the well-oiled Natick football machine gained a hard-fought victory. The Red Raiders showed no ill-effects from a week's layorf as they thoroughly trounced a weak Cambridge l.atin eleven. With the VValter Bryan-to-john Pettinelli passing combination clicking, the Raiders scored in every period. The next two weeks brought I2-o misery to the Raiders, as both New Bedford and Dedham scored well-earned vic- tories by this score. After burying powerful XYeymouth 32-6 in a scrimmage, the Raiders put out with a 2oo'Q effort on Thanksgiving Day to come up with a stunning upset over Quincy's bruising Presidents. Although the whole team turnei in a tremendous game, co-captains Ed Swirbalus and Paul Granville Tr ,pup Sadlier along with Skippy Pierce, Charlie Ander- son, and Paul lalircciitie came in for extra praise. XVith this all- important victory, the Raiders evened their record at 4-4 and made their season and their turkey dinner a success.
