NORTH STAR Few people realize what goes on behind the scenes in the publication of a high school newspaper. First, the editorial staff gathers the news, sorts the various stories, and chooses the most interesting and newsworthy articles. Often those contributions not used in one issue will be retained for the next one because of their merits. Following this, all the contributions go to Miss Youngerman whose able clerical staff does all typing. After the return of the typewritten material, the stafl' sets up or places the numerous articles in the proper spaces where they will appear most interesting. Thus, by means of a dummy the staff can easily visualize the finished product which is then sent to the printer. YVithin a few days one thousand North Stars are received at North and distributed to subscribers. Credit for the publication belongs to the entire staff composed of students from all grades at North who wish to try their hand at journalism. GLEE CLUB There are many people who graduate from North whose happiest memories revolve around Room 402 and Glee Club. X'Vhy?-because music is fun! Glee Club means many things to its members: it means being with folks who have interests in commong having the opportunity to sing as a part of a successful group, in spite of the fact that the Met isn't too eager for their servicesg giving up things cheerfully to meet extra rehearsalsg feeling a wonderful sense of achievement after presenting a program before an audience. As usual, the Glee Club program was synonymous with the spirit of Christ- mas at North. Dressed in choir robes against the background of a stained glass window, the group made the rafters ring with the Hallelujah Chorus from The Messia 11. After the holiday season big plans were in the offing for participating in the Eastern Massachusetts Music Festival and for presenting the annual Spring Concert and Dance which has become an integral part of the organization's pro- gram. That one need not be a Lily Pons or a James Melton to join is perhaps the best feature of the Club. An audition proving ability to read musical notation and to carry a tune reasonably well makes one a bona Hde member. Every person is im- portant to the group. For an activity that provides enjoyment and satisfaction, it always has been and always will be Glee Club. The officers of the Glee Club are as follows: president, Wzilter McMasterg vice president, -lean Gordong secretary, Dorothy MacLeodg treasurer, Mlilliam Nlacliinning and director, Beatrice V. Fitts.

.s Q52 SKETCI-l CLUB The 150 members of the Sketch Club play a very important part in school life. Any art project such as posters lor dances, room display subjects, or illus- trations for literature, this nimble-fingered crew is ready to tackle. As usual the backdrop for the annual Music Department Christmas assem- bly was the work of this club. The beautiful stained glass windows provided fitting backgrounds for the loyely Christmas carols and The Messiah. XVhen the time for the Junior Red Cross International Art Contest came, all of these artists eagerly entered hoping to capture a prize. The Sketch Club also makes menu folders for veterans' hospitals and place cards for various committee dinners as service to the school.
