The history began with the year of 1950, when 26 startled and excited first graders entered school and found Mrs. Thelma Cooper waitit-ig for them. Of these 26, there are eight who have remained together throughout the twelve years. They are the following: Joe Crosby, Madonna Gough, Joe Hart, Jim Mandleco, Sharon McGaughey, Charla Purcell, Danny Westbrook, and Sue Whitaker . The other members of the first grade were: Eugene Bachert, Rocky Creekbaum, Karen Cunningham, Domw. Cripe, Donnie Duncan, Patty Espey, Barbara Fry, Bill Long, James Johnston, Mike Risk, Cojeen Saylor, Carolyn Shillings, Wanda Shrout, Connie Witt, Darrell Morris, Carl Hedge, Ruth Sexton, and Nellie Hart. Carl Hedge moved away during the year. We were guided through our second year by Mrs. Martha Hammer. Mrs. Hammer, a native of Siveden, often entertained us with stories of her country and people. This year we gained and then lost Donald York and Pat Jones. Darrell Morris, Nellie Hart, Ruth Sexton, Wanda Shrout, James Johnston, and Donna Cripe left us, but we were for tunate in gaining Bob Darnell, David Decker, Tommy She ehy, Margo Howard, and Raymond Whitlock. During our third year, Mrs. Nell Kersey put up with us for eight and a half months. This year will especially be remembered because it was our first year in the new school building. This year Bill Duncan, Pat Jones, and Dewey Abney joined our class; however, we lost David Decker, Cojeen Saylor, Barbara Fry, Carolyn Shillings, Connie Witt, and also Dewey Abney. We spent our fourth year under the direction of Mrs. Helen Brown. During recess the girls spent most of their time playing with dolls which they brought to school. We gained five neiv members and they were: Linda Brooks, Bob Preston, Virginia Puckett, Carl M anion, and Bonnie Clones. Miss Verona Clampitt, now Mrs. Ted Rice, was our teacher during our fifth year. We were a very vivacious class, but she kept us under control. During the winter months when there ivas snow, we spent recess time having snowball fights. The newcomers were: Patty Goivin, Jerry Broaddus and Mike Rooksberry. Mike Abney and Linda Gibbs spent part of the year with us. Unfortunately, Carl Manion, Linda Brooks, Virginia Puckett, Rocky Creek- baum, aitd Bill Long left us. Mrs. Mary Sanders worked with us our sixth year. This was our last year to enjoy the privileges of grade school pupils. We gained Sue and Viola Gov el, Jimmie Campbell, David Whitaker, and Linda Brooks. Linda Gibbs, Donald Duncan, Patty Espey and Karen Cunning- ham moved aivay. Junior high, here we are! ! ! Mrs. Betty Robertson was our sponsor for our seventh year. Sara Beck, James Bonifacius, David Courtney, Phil Everman, Ray Albright, Linda Gibbs, and Jane Steele were added to our enrollment. We lost Raymond Whitlock, Margo Howard, Jerry Broaddus, Mike Rooksberry, Jimmie Campbell, Tommy Sheehy, and Viola and Sue Gobel. During our eighth year, ivewere Jiappy to welcome Carole Cornett, Beverly Spencer, and Carl Brookshire as new members of our class. We said Good-bye to Ray Albright, Eugene Bachert, David Courtney, Patty Jones, Mike Risk, and Jane Steele. 18 A group of greener than green freshmen entered the school in the fall of 1958. Thanks to the seniors we had a grand and glorious initiation, which we all really enjoyed. Our class sweaters, powder blue with white trim, were worn proudly by the members of our class. A bake sale and the selling of Katydid candy were our class projects. David Bryant, Vera Jettison and Raymond Malicoat joined our class. Bob Preston left us. As silly sophomores, we were busy selling candy during the noon hours. We lost Carol Cornett, Patty Gowin, and Raymond Malicoat. Gerald Miethe and Olney McKinney were added to our enrollment. This year we ivere very happy to welcome Mr. John Wilson as our sponsor. He shared this responsibility with Mrs. Robertson. Our jolly junior year proved to be a very busy one. At last we received our long awaited class rings. We sold magazines, candy, conducted a paper drive, and had concessions at the ballgames. Giving our Junior Play, This Ghost Business, ivas a new and exciting ad- venture for us. Our Junior-Senior Prom, with the theme Colonial, was held at Turkey Run State Park. Linda Gibbs, Sharon McGaughey, Olney McKinney, and David Whitaker left us. We lost Bonnie Clones for only a few months. In the year 1961, we became seniors, but not very sophisticated. We tliank Mrs. Robertson and Mr. Wilson for guiding us through our high school years. We had so many activities this year it is hard to mention all of them. Some were: running concessions at ballgames, selling candy, sponsoring a paper drive, enjoying a Senior Banquet at the Christian Church, ordering caps, gowns, graduation announcements, posing for senior pictures, producing the Senior Play, taking achievement tests and last, but certainly not least, participating in the Baccalaureate and Commencement. And so, on the mght of May 15, 1962, we will close the book of our history. We wish to say to the Board of Education and to all the teachers, if we liave not succeeded in learning anything during the past twelve years, it is not the fault of anyone but ourselves. Some- times we submitted gracefully, sometimes protestingly, but we always submitted, because we knew we must, and for this discipline, we most truly thank you and we think that it will favorably influence us in our future. When the bells ring next September, we shall not answer its summons. We have had our time of youth, our time of joy in the classrooms, and our time for lessons. The knoivledge we have acquired will be a guiding star along our journey in the future. That tells the story to the best of our ability. We Itave come a long way since August, 1950. Even though it is a happy occasion for all, we seniors may in these last feiv days look around us and feel a little sad, because nothing remains but memories. Memories always to be recalled, but never to be remade. 19 CLASS WILL I, Bev Spencer, will my ability to talk in class without getting caught (?) to Steve Doreff. Crosby in 1966, I saw the Duncan Theatre, similar to the famous Fox Theatre. After I was seated by usher Phil Everman, I glanced at the program. To my surprise, I re- cognized a few names: Linda Lovely, Bonnie the Body, and Baby-Faced Sue. Before the show, a few distinguished people were introduced: Carl Brookshire, a doctor who has his office next door to the theatre, and Madame Gough, a former wife of Dunny Hart, the ambassador from Tim-Buck-Too. During the show, the music was furnished by the pianist Miss Bev, and the drummer Miss Charla. To add to my astonishment, I heard the voices of Danny Westbrook and Ruthie Majors shouting, Get your good, salty popcorn here! After having heard this, I decided to leave this enchanted place. Before leaving, the hosts, James and Vera, asked me if I had enjoyed my visit and invited me to return soon. I knew that never would be too soon, so I decided to leave Crosbyville just as fast as my four wheels would go. Before long, the town marshal of Crosbyville, Sure-Shot-Mandleco, and his deputy, David Bryant, arrested me for speeding. This is how I, Sharon McGaughey, alias Gigi, received my first speeding ticket. 21 fir T v- l  e rw l gf WHO ' S WHO IN THE SENIOR CLASS? j3Sj !§ PHYSICS ROW ONE: Jones, Keck, Carpenter, Westbrook, Stafford, Williams, Thompson, Martz, Breedlove, Gentry, Eldridge, Mrs. Hut chins, Mr. Myers.
