MAYBE SOMEDAY - hope Peggy sails- bury and Joyce McLean as they wistfully look at one of the travel posters on their French class bulletin board. Maps. charts, posters. songs, customs. and folk lore of foreign lands make language classes interesting as well as educational. French is a very popular subject and is elected by many students, V. SILENCE! GENIUSES AT WORK! Comparing English notes and making additions are Joyce Robe- shaw and lNIarie Perrino. They are using their stucly period to work together on a special assignment. In most cases 'each student is alloted at least one study period a day. which may be used to complete much of his homework or to work on that extra assignment. IRANCI .4 2 Ns le . ff WORK AND PLAY, DAY BY DAY I, WHICH RULE SHALL WE LTSE HERE? asksjohn Di- Chiaro of Norma Borrelli. They are checking and correcting their English homework assignment on the blackboard. English is one of the fundamental subjects of all three of our courses. Here the important rules concerning the simple subject and predicate verb are being applied and john and Norma are putting their knowledge into practice. They are members of a Sophomore English class. II. EAR AWAY PLACES Speaking Spanish. Carolyn Steere asks the Spanish class, What well-known city is thisH , as she points to Madrid. the capital of Spain. One of the students will translate her question into English and another will answer it in Spanish. The geography and the topography, as well as the ancient and modern history of foreign countries, are discussed orally by the students in all our foreign language classes. III. ALI, RIGHT SO FAR, says Alva Vernaya .is he checks the work on the blackboard with his Latin book. Eunice johnson is standing by ready to translate the conjugation of the verb into English. Board work such as this enables the student to see where he makes his mistakes. Latin proves to be extremely helpful not only in broadening one's vocabulary but also in giving one a wider knowledge and understanding of by-gone days. A X 1 X 17- I. IS THIS CORRECT! asks Paula Germain as she finishes adding the column of numbers dictated to her by Mr. Lister. Indi- vidual attention such as this is given in all classes. Commercial arithmetic students must not only be prohcient in adding long columns of numbers. but also in working fractions and decimals. The commercial course is planned for the student who desires special preparation for the world of business. II. THE FINISHING TOUCH That dirhcult mechanical drawing problem doesnt seem to be giving William Doyle much trouble. Here he is using the triangle to complete it. Kenneth Costa is checking the mathematical aspect of the problem with the book and Richard Manocchia is ready to offer a helping hand if needecl. Haphazard methods can not be used here because all the measure- ments that are used in mechanical drawing must be precise. III. INTO THE WIORLD OF PARAINIECIA AND VORTI- CELLAE peers Nancy Lloyd. Michael DeI.uca is taking notes as she tells him what she sees. Students must know all the parts ofthe microscope before they are allowed to make use of it. Not only is biology an interesting class. but it also gives the student a wider knowledge of microscopic life in the world around us. All students are required to pass biology before they may graduate. X a FEW. ,fdX,65xkv7Q I . , A X? 2 K :sf . Mig x ' fs' We - IV. PATTERNS IN GEOMETRY are drawn by Richard Hill and checked carefully by Frances San- Giovanni. Here the instructor. IXIr. Sisti. is explaining theorem twenty-seven. which concerns a right triangle inscribed in a circle. A thorough knowledge of geometry proves to be helpful in Physics. Algebra II. Trigonometry and Mathematics Review. V. THE MUSIC GOES ROUND AND ROUND and it comes out here. That complicated looking chart is only the diagram of the interior of a radio. Mr. Gallo is explaining the electronic aspect of radio to Ernest DiGuil1io and Anthony Arlia, who are listening attentively. Radio Theory is an elective for boys who wish to know' more about electronics. Q ,,.-,1 .ax IV. HNOXY' XVI-IOSE LETTER COULD THIS BE? Here Anne Bastianelli sorts out the day's mail and puts the letters in their proper boxes. Every teacher has his own mail box in which all his mail and an- nouncements are placed by otlice-practice students. Commercial students are given a knowledge of ofhce procedure by working in the general orhce. V. NO. IT'S NOT CHINESE. its shorthand dic- tated to Eileen Paolino by Louise Vessella. Shorthand enables the student to take notes from rapid dictation. Through homework. memorization. and blackboard practice. students greatly increase their writing speed. Before completing the course the student must be able to take one hundred tifty words a minute. WORK AND PLAY, DAY BY DAY I. A DOLBLE JOB Mr. Shea explains how to make a double job much easier to Constance Ifair as she has to listen to the words Coming over the dictaphone and type them at the same time. The commercial course not only gives the student a background in typewriting but also in bookkeeping. stenography. otiice practice and allied commercial subiccts. It is designed to give the student preparation to enter the business world. II. ONLY TWENTY MORE TO GO. says Delia DiCola as she counts the copies run oil' by Natalie Vaughn on the duplicating machine in the otlice. This apparatus is a very valuable timesaver and is used by both teachers and students to run off reference material and test copies. and to print bulletins and announcements. Delia and Natalie. both members of an ollice practice class. are running off test copies for a teacher. III. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT That old saying certainly holds true when it comes to typing. Miss Smiley is giying Claire Brett and Laurel Cranshaw a peek at the typing chart so that they may see if they are using the correct keys. First year typing students learn to type business letters. announcements and bulletins from copy. In order to complete this course a student must be proncient enough to type at least thirty words a minute. 2... ?-3 ..
