Soon after this successful trip, the Viking ship sailed astray from her course of victory. Throughout the first half of the season, the Vikings seemed unable to jell into a winning team. with vic- tories over Francisco, Mt. Olympus, Owensvllle, and Patoka, the Vikings entered into the Holiday Tourney at North Posey with a record of four won and six lost. The first round opponent for the Vikings was the powerful Twigs from Ft. Branch. Under a full head of steam, the upstart Vikings fought the invaders to a standstill for three quarters, only to lose in the end. This crucial game was one of great import for the Viking cause--a victory over the Twigs would undoubtedly have given the Vikings the momentum needed to snap out of the doldrums in the second half of the season. As it turned out, after another victory over the Owensville Klckapoos in the consolation game, the Vikings reeled off five straight losses to bring their record to five wins and twelve losses prior to the Haubstadt game. Throughout the losing streak the Vikings had shown flashes of brilliance but could not seem to find the consistency needed for a victory. The night was February 5, 19605 the place was the North Posey gymnasiumg on the floor and ready to face the Vikings were the once- beaten Haubstadt Elites. This was the game of the year, as far as the Vikings were concerned. The Vikings were really nupn for this one. Before a roaring mob of partisan fans, the Elites were humbled by an inspired North Posey squad, who held as much as a ten point lead over the Elites and managed to stave off a last gasp rally by the invaders to present the Viking fans with a hard-fought, hard-won victory in the most exciting game of the season. This game stands out as the Supreme achieve- ment and the high point of the year. After gaining revenge against New Harmony in the season's finale, the Vikings finished the season with a record of seven wins and thirteen losses. VARSITY TEAM RECORD North Posey 44 Mt.
