This is the twelfth consecutive year a group has been chosen from this high school. The students who are selected for this society have reached the highest award attainable in North Platte Senior High School. Fifteen per cent ofthe senior class have the distinction of belonging. The students eligible must be in the upper one-third of their class in scholarship. Selection into the society is made by ballot of the upper one-third of the senior class, the faculty, and a secret committee of teachers. The students vote toward the end of the first semester and the faculty near the close of the second semester. The votes of the teachers and students are 'tal- lied. VVhen the ballot of faculty and sen- iors begins to disagree the rest of the names are referred to the committee. The committee then selects the remaining num- ber ot' students to be chosen. Admittance into the National Honor So- ciety is based on schola1'ship, character, leadership, and the student's desire to serve. The initiation ceremony takes place May 18 in the high school auditorium at eleven o'clock with parents of the new members invited. Blue and gold symbolize the colors of the National Honor Society chapter at North Platte High School. Each girl initi- ated May 18 will be given a corsage and every boy will be given a boutoniere. The buying of pins is optional.

In order not to hold up the printing of the book, and rather than fake May events, these pictures were used. The top picture is printed because the boys in western dress tit in with the theme of the year book. The track picture is used because this activity was participated in during the month. The bottom picture is of interest because it illus- trates the news board which was so popu- lar. May--the last of school-is always a April If.. At last, fat and sleek, the dogies come in for the Spring Round-Up, at the trail's end. Many are the tasks and chores through Winter frost and chill, before the labor is coni- plete. Now comes the reward in knowledge of a job well done and in the festivities of the years end. Through the year students, too, had work to do. They attended classes daily, wrote reference work, made oral reports, participated in panel discussions, heard lectures by prominent speakers, and took examinations. Assemblies presented by various school and civic organizations, proved enjoyable. The American Legion presented the Armistice day assembly. One of the most striking assemblies was the one in which the student body heard the President of the United States ask Congress to declare war on the Axis pow- ers. The four speakers, brought here by the Rotary Club, presented brief inspira- tional talks on World events. ,fr l., 1 I g . 1 K ff-A A ff F it T553 C to . ., .,. A l - ,Jeff 16
