When it reopened for the 1983-84 school year, North was having difficul- ty in establishing itself. The Phoenix schools were declining and it was no longer considered prestigious to attend North. But this year's seniors who were the first to attend the school for four straight years, were leading the school of about 1,800 to the onced called honor school of the West. Beginning academically, it stood out well. It was an academic magnet school for the district, with a special college preparatory program through the Intemational Baccalaureate Pro- gram. 'W Finishing in eleventh place, Senior Craig Fielder runs in at cross- countryt meet against Peoria to help the Mustangs to a victory. --nn. f- . i. raised its academic abilities to r heights with three national merit st finalists who were Andy Cal Valerie Daubard and Rob Eaglestoi Athletically, North had excel Winning state in AAA Division boys' track and second in the state AAA Division II boys' basketball 1985-86 season, the Mustangs vw back. This year the goals were the sa but along with other teams. The fi ball team clinched its first plaj berth and won the homecoming ga since 1967. Along with this, the bt cross-country team finished undefeated record. Reviewing for an up- coming English test, a student takes time out during lunch time to study by herself. Everyone got along well with each other. Students were always seen happily chatting ,over the Most people were in- volved with one or more, activities, whether it was Foot- ball, Cheer, the Chess Club, or the Science Club.
