N 0 RT H - GLENDALE - Due to Glendale fumbles, the Mustangs escaped an upset by the Cardinals. The Cardi- nals outplayed the Mustangs all through the game. One time the Mustangs made a bril- liant goal line stand which stopped Glendale's chance of upsetting us. The absence of Lloyd Aycock, due to an ankle injury, hurt the Mus- tangs. Quarterback Fred Lyddon got the game's only touchdown against the Cardinals when he sneaked over from the 2 yard line in the sec- ond quarter. Marv Davis and Alan Sandell were outstanding on defense. Lloyd Aycock t32l jumps in the air to break up a West High pass play, and John Mackler comes in to assist. NCJRTH - 14 YUMA - 21 For a while it looked as it the Mustangs would come from behind and beat Yuma. But early in the fourth quarter Yuma made a touchdown that cinched the game. NORTH-14 MESA -14 Even though this was a tie game, it was a moral victory for us because we were the underdogs. Our first score was set up when Alan Sandell recovered a Mesa fumble. Then the Mustangs marched 45 yards and Lloyd Aycock scored from the two, North kicked off and Mesa's Livingston ran for an 82 yard touchdown. After that it was a hard fought battle but neither team was able to score. Frank Evans, Fred Lyddon, Alan Sandell, Bob Gray and Jon Marx were standouts in this game. Butch Salmon i191 is tackled from behind by a Tucson player. Frank Evans i471 looks on. NORTH - AMPHI - 21 lt was a sad day at Tucson on Oct. 9 when the Amphitheater Panthers shut out the Mus- tangs for the first time in 23 games. The in- yuries of halfback Lloyd Aycock and fullback Jon Marx hurt the Mustangs' offense. Amphi scored their three touchdowns on North furnbles and a pass interference penalty. 1821 Pete Hjort i461 moves in on Mesa's Livingston l211. NORTH - 14 TUCSON - L Lloyd Aycock paced the Mustangs to their victory over the Badgers. He had an average of 15.5 yards per carry. He also scored a touch- down on a pass play from Lyddon. Jon Marx scored the other on a 1 yard plunge. Dave Dun- bar and Alan Sandell were also outstanding. NORTH - 14 SOUTH - 14 The passing of Rennie Crittenden and run- ning of Lloyd Aycock started us off strongly against South Mountain. But in the second half the Rebels went wild and tied the score. They almost upset us, but a fumble stopped that. Lloyd Aycock scored both our touchdowns. First Aycock plunged l yard for the TD. Then Rennie Crittenden passed to Aycock and he went 30 yards for the second touchdown. N O R T H - CAMELBACK - North was able to complete only one pass in their first game with Camelback. But that one pass, from Rennie Crittenden to Arleigh Biehler gave us our only and winning touch- down. lt was a defensive game all the way, The running of Lloyd Aycock, Dave Dunbar and Ronnie Stephens kept North rolling. Alan Sandell was North's outstanding player on defense. H842 N O RT H - 16 ST.MARY'S- North's exceptionally strong line battered the Knight's defense in our victory over them. Our scoring was done by Lloyd Aycock with two runs, one for l yard and the other for 5 yards. ln the third quarter when we had St. Mary's back to the goal line, Bob Gray crashed through to tackle Tiffany in the end zone to add 2 more points for North. The second half was mostly a defensive game.
