■ In Loving Memory Of Gail Elaine Hodder. To some she will soon be forgotten And some will recall just her name. But for us who have loved and lost her, Her memory will always remain. Thomas Raymond Watkins Those that he loved so long and sees no more, Loved and still loves — not dead, but gone before, He gathers round him. 2 — Number of passes intercepted by Dave Hall. Number of days a smoker stays home if caught — 3 The seniors of the 1980 Pennsonian yearbook staff are very proud to dedi- cate this years yearbook to Mrs. Mani- kowski. Mrs. Manikowski, a native of Morris Run, has been a teacher at North Penn for 16 years, in which time she has been a valuable asset to the school and especially to the graduating class of 1980. Mrs. Manikowski was class advisor in our freshman and junior year and helped us with the necessary fund raising for our trip to Gettysburg and our Junior Prom. She is also the ad- visor for Camera Club which is one of the largest organizations at North Penn. Mrs. Manikowski’s willingness to help out whether as a chaperone at a dance or taking tickets at a football game has not gone unnoticed. We appreciate and thank her for her en- thusiastic school spirit and we cer- tainly will remember her many contri- butions to our years at North Penn. Football’79 Front Row: C. Fessler, M. Harman, J. Football 79 was highlighted by three tough wins including a Homecoming victory over Renova. This year’s team was led by a small, but very determined group of seniors: Mick Harman, Mike Stoudt, Dan Berguson, Dan Shelman, John Kendrick, and Mike Kaminski, who will all be missed next year. Offensively, the Panther's were led by junior Ted Kelchner, (800 plus total yards), Mick Harman’s passing, and Chris Fessler’s receiving (9 catches for 250 yards). Sophomores Bob Brion and Tim Llewellyn also performed well. The quick offensive line consisted of Dan Shelman, Mike Stoudt, Dan Berguson, Jack Kelly, Dan Kurzejewski, and Chris Tacka. Defensively, North Penn is eagerly anticipating 1980 sea- son as 9 of the starters are returning. A fine defensive back field (7 interceptions, 4 fumble recoveries) consisting of Dave Hall, John Phinney, Ted Kelchner, and Chris Fessler will all be returning. Dan Hutcheson (54 tackles, 23 assists, and 1 fumble may have been the best linebacker in the area. Hutch and Mark Benson (35 tackles, 44 assists, 1 fumble, 1 interception) will both be returning for North Penn. Nose guard, John Woodward, did a fine job (35 tackles, 26 assists) and Rob Crane (41 tackles, 36 assists, 4 fumbles) was thought by many to be the best defensive end around. Chris Tacka and Glen Miller made a tandem of good returning tackles. To cap off a fine rebuilding year, senior Dan Berguson and junior Ted Kelchner were honored by being named to the all NTL team. No. of varsity cheerleaders — 9 Give me that. . . basketball!! Top to bottom: Marion Bond, Lisa Marvin, Kim Bower, Mindy Muto, Front row: A. Lupkowski, L. Mundis, H. Haynes. Janis Carlson, Pam Ogden, Nancy Padleski, Eileen Dalton, Michele Row 2: K. Stanton, L. Baker Stiner. The 1979 Panthers finished their season with a 9 win 8 loss record. The season included ap- pearances in the Troy Jaycee Tourney and the Elkland Tip-Off Tourney where Mindy Muto was named to the all-star team. The team was led by high scoring guard Mindy Muto (15 pts. per game) who teamed with the playmaker, Janis Carlson (6 pts. per game) at the other guard. Nancy Padleski (8 pts. per game) and Michele Stiner (leading rebounder) held down the Forward positions. Eileen Dalton (5 pts. per game) played the center position. Senior Kim Bower and Sophomore Pam Ogden contributed throughout the season coming off the bench. The season, despite some disappointing loss- es, provided some valuable experiences and certainly some fond memories for players and coach. Some will be back: Lori Baker, Lisa Mar- vin, Marion Bond, and sophomore Pam Ogden will provide the nucleus for next year’s squad. 10 — Number of points M. Sophomore Judy Morgan led the team in scoring and rebounding. Tracy Watkins, Mary Makley, and Robin Bower played steady ball all season. Penny Grant developed a great deal through the season and became a strong rebounder and improved much shooting. Despite a 3 — 5 won — lost record, the girl’s jr. high basketball season provided some valuable experience for some promising underclassmen. Mary Kay Dalton and Kate Ward led the team in scoring. Lori Smith did some strong rebounding throughout the sea- son. The team played some exciting basketball. An especially thrilling game was a heart- breaking 20-19 loss to their arch-rival Well- sboro. HIGH The Junior High Basketball team ended its season with a record of 4-4. This is a suc- cessful season because most of the teams played were freshmen teams whereas NP started all eighth graders. David Mahosky and Doug O'Conners were the top point produc- ers while Rock Griswold, Todd Llewellyn, and Mike Carlson played well all year long. Rounding out the list of 8th graders were Todd Levandoski and Pat Powers. Two Freshmen were also on the team, Todd Kreger and Elwin Kriner There was a very strong turnout among 7th graders and the outlook for NP Basketball seems promising. The 7th graders finished with a 6-2 record. Mike Wilson also played many of the regular Jr. High games. Other 7th graders include Randy Kendrick, Greg Ruberto Bill Novitski, Mark Kahana, Ron Ritt, Jim Bogaczyk, and Tod Jones. The highlight of the season was winning the Blossburg Kiwanis Xmas Tournament. North Penn entered the tourney with an 0-7 pre-season record and beat first round op- ponent Liberty 52-47, and then went on to beat Canton 54-49 avenging an earlier 2 point loss. The J.V. squad of 79-80 was an inexperienced one with only two returning players. Their hard work and determination was reflected in their im- provement through the season, climaxed by the upset of Mansfield 49-47 and the heartbraking loss to league champions C.V. in the final game. The Panthers were led by Tim Llewellyn’s 305 points and Bob Brion's 237 points. The team shot a respectable 53.2% from the line and 33.4% from the field. The 79-80 season will send Tim Llewellyn, Bob Brion, Frank Oakes, Joe Bubacz, Scott English, Randy Lazouras, Randy Nellis, and Mike Musingo to the varsity ranks next year. This will leave Dan Dinnison (top F.G. pet. 46.9%), Bill Toothaker, and Jim Bogaczyk along with a tall, strong group of Junior High players to compose the 80-81 J.V. team. The powerful Panther Varsity Volleyball team swept their way to an excellent 6-1 season. The lone loss was from the repeating District 4 Champions Wellsboro, in one of the most ex- citing high school volleyball matches this area has ever seen. Playing their usual 4 hitter 2 setter offense, the Panthers attack was led by the aggressive spiking of captain Mindy Muto and Sharon Manikowski, with Michele Stiner and Deb Krause providing the offense on rotation. Excellent serving was a characteristic of this year's team with several sharing honors as high scorer, including Michele, Sharon, Jani, Mindy, Carla, and Deb. Outstanding setting by the team setters Janis Carlson and Carla Wandell pro- vided the placement opportunities. Strong re- serves providing back-up in positions included Pam Ogden, Holly Haynes, Connie Cruikshank, and Nancy Padleski. In all this team has dis- played the most balance, team spirit, and team play that Mrs. Muto has coached in her seven year reign. I sure hope we win! That serve wasn't too hard! Senior rookie, Dan Berguson, proved to be an excellent athlete when he progressed so far in his first season. Dan performed well in the field events. Dan Hutcheson was a scorer for North Penn at the district meet in the long jump. Dan showed fine form all season in the jumps winning the long jump in the League Championships. The highlight of the season came in the League Meet when Ted Kelchner, Rob Crane, John Woodward, and Art Wilcox set a North Penn Record in the 1600 meter relay. Earlier, they had just missed the record and at the District meet they ran the second fastest time ever run by a North Penn Quartet. The 1980 Pennsonian is the result of hun- dreds of hours of work by students interested in preserving, in pictures and words, the year they shared at North Penn. From lay-outs to fund raising, the organization worked throughout the year. Editor, Eileen Dalton, led an experienced group of seniors in putting together a yearbook that North Penn's students can proudly share with friends and relatives. Business Manager, Mindy Muto, met the challenge of seeing finan- cial obligations were met as a small student body limits the number of yearbooks sold. Lack of volume in sales makes fund raising an annual task. The support of local businesses and pa- trons is a great help but the hard work of staff members in card sales, car washes, candy sales, dances and so on allow the students of North Penn to continue in their yearbook tradi- tion. The Juniors and Sophomores, struggled through the year to learn the ropes as next year, Eileen will not be available to save the day. Advisor, Mr. Smith, is confident that the hard work and attitude of this years underclassmen on the staff, insures a good Pennsonian in the years ahead. standing: L. Baker, B. Tomlinson. K.
