Their future safekeeping left in doubt. The reminders of the year just past. Must be preserved so they will last. The joys, the laughs, the fears, the tears. Were all a part of our school year. Though deeply etched the memories seem. Time erodes. . . leaving only dreams. A treasured year of our life is gone, But hopefully, the memories live on. MEMORIES i. 1 DONNA D. ADAMS DAVID L. FORWARD As graduates of the class of 1978, we have designed this Pennsonian as a memory bank whose pages shall reflect the fondness and warmth we feel toward North Penn. When leafing through your Pennsonian, we hope its contents help you to recall those experiences which were important ones for you. We thank our families, friends, and faculty for making it worth remembering and are eagerly looking to the future, only because of the successes we have shared in the past. ROGER L. HARDING DANIEL L. The time and effort spent by him on behalf of our school has not gone unnoticed. He was not only a very fine classroom teacher, but a person we could confide in. Our fond memories include not only those of him as our teacher, but also as a coach, athletic director, and most importantly, yearbook advisor. We learned a great deal and had a good time putting together many yearbooks with him. % %«•«««, ............ 40 The happy couple The Court” Queen — Donna McCarthy King — Keith Johnson First runner ups Darlyn Witushynsky — George Dake Second runner ups Wendy Baker — Steve Stiner Smile pretty. Z3 CD O Work — Study Annick LeMaire Annick LeMaire was our foreign exchange student. Annick is a native of Belgium and a graduate of the “Institut De La Providence” in Herve, Belgium. As a senior last year, Annick enjoyed her visit very much. The students at North Penn will always have fond memories of the year shared with Annick. Because of her outgoing attitude, she gained many friends. During her time with us, Annick was a guest with the Ed McCabe and Sam Thomas families. What she found most interesting while here was the snow and peanut butter. Annick, after graduating, returned to rejoin her family in Heusy Verviers, Belgium. 50 Pep Rally 51 Homecoming at North Penn in 1977 was a memorable weekend for many reasons. Even though Friday night’s bonfires were dampened by the rain, the spirits of the students were not. Skies cleared Saturday morning, much to the delight of the crowds that lined Main Street to watch the parade. The parade featured the Mansfield State College Mounties Band, Wellsboro Honey Bees and Bugle Corps, and the North Penn, Mansfield, and Renova High School Bands. Fans, Saturday afternoon, were treated to an exciting football game; a big Renova team proved a little too much for the Panthers as Renova held on for a 14-12 decision. At half-time. Miss Denise Davies was crowned 1977 Homecoming Queen by last year’s queen, Vanessa Valimont. Other candidates included runner-up Theresa Smith, Mindy Kelchner, Patty Davies, Theresa Kaminski, and Mary Mahosky. A well attended formal dance was held Saturday evening. Steve Manwaring, captain of the football team, presented the autographed game ball to Homecoming Queen, Denise Davies. A fireworks display lit up the skies on the Island Saturday evening. The weekend was drawn to a close with an Ecumenical Service Sunday morning, a family picnic, and the time capsule dedication on the public library grounds in the afternoon. 54 Sports DAVE BOB DAN BILL N.P. The 1978 Panthers track team posted a fine 16-2 won-lost record. Along the way four school records were broken, the team placed well in their own North Penn Invitational, placed second in the Northern Tier League and finished eighth out of a thirty team field at the District Four Meet. The team of Jeff Wheeler, Rob Snee, Steve Cooper and Dave Bogaczyk set a school record and placed third at the district meet. Dave Spencer placed fourth in the discus with a toss just under his own school record. Percy Johnson picked up points with record runs in the 100 yard dash and always placed well in the intermediate hurdles. Bill Evans placed fourth in the high hurdles in the district meet and picked up a silver medal in the high jump. He also qualified for the Pennsylvania state championships in the high jump and advanced to the finals of that event at the state meet placing seventh in the state. 71 Kiwanis Invitational 72 Girl’s Track Row 1: L. The North Penn Girl's Track Team enjoyed a mildly successful season this year. Outstanding times and distances were turned in by Denise Davies (placed second in the Twin Tiers in the triple jump), Kris Kendrick in the discus, Annette Brion — Mindy Kelchner — Denise Davies — Michele Stiner — Mindy Muto in the Mile and Two Mile relays. Mr. Hall feels the team is losing a great bunch of seniors but hopes to make up for it with a good crop of eighth graders coming up next year. 75 “Seniors” Varsity Volleyball Kneeling: K. Odgen, M. Kelchner, D. Davies, M. Muto, A. Brion, P. Davies. Standing: T. Mokrzynski (Man.), A. Miller (Stat.), J. Carlson, R. Muto (Coach), R. Tomlinson, M. Thomas, J. Lee (Man.), C. Christly (Man.). The starting line up consisted of five seniors — Annette Brion, Mindy Kelchner, Patty Davies, Kim Ogden and Denise Davies. These girls have completed four seasons and will have many fond memories of the volleyball experiences they have shared. Thanks Coach Muto! (Mr. Muto, too!!) 76 The Varsity Volleyball Team had a very successful year, defeated only once by Mansfield. All out team effort was the key factor to the winning season. The girls worked hard at practice and this was reflected in their match play. The team finished their season by competing in the P.I.A.A. Volleyball tournament at Mansfield State College. 77 J.V. Volleyball 78 ji_______ The North Penn J.V. Panthers ended their season with a respectable record of 4 wins and 3 losses.
