Text from Pages 1 - 168 of the 1976 volume:

— We, the graduating class of 1976, would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and teachers for the help and advice they have given us in the past years. Although some say we are at a disadvantage coming from a small school, we disagree. By being so small, we have gotten to know each other and to appreciate the things that small groups can accomplish. In our own way each of us has con- tributed to our Pennsonian theme, A link to the chain of freedom,” by the time and effort we have spent in different activities and by the many learning experiences we've shared in school and home. Saluting our country’s 200th Birthday, the yearbook staff hopes you will appreciate and enjoy the 1976 edition of our Pennsonian - HAPPY BICENTENNIAL AMERICA! rvs 7mJ?j -tfvvn TfQ V85 hurmi mo Vb bo % iP1® ?(£ mm JjWjpfj wwjj : fr9 Many elements contributed to the success of Homecoming 1975. The excitement started on Friday afternoon with a super spirited pep rally that featured The Wiz- ard of Oz. The stars of the show were Seniors Don Jackson and Denny Bogaczyk, while the cheer- leaders led the fans in many enthusiastic chants. A speech was also presented by Coach Gary Wak- smunski expressing his wishes for a Homecoming victory. On Saturday, the real excitement started. The parade began from the high school and proceeded to Island Park. It was the largest Homecoming Parade ever, thanks to the fine organization by Seniors Laurie Berguson and Bonnie Tarbox. This was followed by a Chicken Barbeque sponsored by the Kiwanis. The most excitement was at the football game when the Panthers came out after a 14 to 14 half- time knot. The fired up North Penn squad rallied in the second half and showed the true Homecom- ing Spirit by winning with a score of 52 to 14. With halftime, came the fears and anxieties of crowning the new queen. Candidates were Suzi Carlson, Joan Gekoski, Deb Bogaczyk, Karen Keagle, Janie Frederick, and Beth Delinski. A hush of silence came over the crowd when speaker Amy Kelchner announced the outcome. Janie Frederick received the first runner-up title, while Beth Delinski was crowned by the 1974 Homecom- ing Queen, Karen Dalton. A formal dance highlighted the evening, with the presentation of the autographed team football. Overall, Homecoming 1975 was a great success . . . one link to the Chain of Freedom. Very interesting! Jumping off to a quick start on the Victory Road, the determined Panthers came back after a first half deficit to overpower the Indians of Cow- anesque Valley. Filled with confidence after their previous win, North Penn added a Homecoming victory to its list. The Renova Bucks were the victims of the Panthers' mighty claws, losing by the score of 51 to 14. Next came the Towanda, Wyalusing and Athens. Although ending up on the wrong side of the scoreboard, the Panthers played well. Fighting to the end, North Penn showed great strength. A cold and blustery day in Canton stopped the Panthers from scoring their third win. Several great plays were performed that day, even though the final result was in Canton’s favor. Playing under the lights at Troy, North Penn found its winning spirit once more. Many enthusiastic fans helped cheer the Panthers on to a 28 to 13 victory. Finally, the most exciting and temper-filled game arrived. This was against the Wellsboro Hornets. Playing excellent ball, North Penn pulled out to a comfortable first half lead. From that point, Wellsboro was never back in the contest. The end of the game brought the moment everyone awaited. The Morton Jones Trophy was presented to the North Penn Panthers, after waiting six long years to display it in their trophy case. By defeating Mansfield, they became Northern Tier League - West Champs and went on to become P.I.A.A. District 4 Champs. After this exciting game, a parade took place through downtown Blossburg where 122 cars participated and a climax was reached when a party and dance were held at the Rod and Gun Club. Continuing on their successful road, the Panthers defeated Scotland, 81 to 60, playing before an excited crowd which supported our team throughout the sea- son . Then came the decisive game, North Penn versus Bishop Klonowski! In a very controversial match, playing double overtimes, overcoming many hard to accept setbacks, and giving it all they had, the Panthers were defeated by a score of 77 to 75. £ JU CDM No wonder they can't beat us.
