U ie 1971 Jennson an i C) on tents 9i ore won xf THE - : UW ' dedication 3 'Introduction 4 Seniors IS dacuftu 40 As our school days draw to a rapid close, we, the class of '71 must pause for a moment to evaluate the first years of our lives. For the past twelve years we have been prepared to assume respon- sible and useful positions in a modern world. Our instruction is now complete and each of us must decide how we can best serve society. Some will go on to higher education, some will fulfill their military obligations, and some will begin immediate service to their community. But, regardless of which road is taken, it will be taken by individuals who are capable and willing to make their own decisions. In the years to come, we hope that this Yearbook will be successful in its purpose of preserving the memories of the people, places, and events which played such an important part in our lives. Or 'yan irations 48 Sports 62 (Underclass 88 We, the class of 1971, upon the completion of our years at North Penn, wish to express our deepest gratitude to the man who has contributed so much to our school. Although he has been with us only the last of our high school years, his kindness and warm understanding, along with his new ideas, have made each day of this year very memorable. Therefore, we wish to dedicate this edition of the PENNSONIAN to a man who is both our friend and principal ... MR. FRANCIS A. BROWN m n Dedication 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 16 17 18 19 CHERYL L. For each of you I wish the best in whatever you choose to do after grad- uation. Remember, that each one of you is necessary to make this country survive, whether you are: a home- maker, mechanic, lawyer, doctor, or laborer. Good luck to you all. MRS. SHERMAN Seniors, Congratulations! You haven't copped out on your responsibilities toward your high school education. It took time, effort, and sacrifice to get where you are now. You can be justly proud of yourselves. I firmly believe that not copping out is a habit that can be strengthen- ed and reinforced and that your experiences at North Penn will enable you to face the future with courage and honor. We're proud of you - please help us stay that way. Good luck. W. H. TROWBRIDGE In a world where the emphasis is so often placed on the problems that confront you, remember that the world is still full of marvelous exper- iences: the exploration of new ideas, the love of friends, the completion of a difficult task, the enjoyment of simple everyday pleasures. No one can ignore the world's imperfections nor shirk his responsibility for helping to solve mankind's problems, but an awareness of life’s opportunities and satisfactions can help you face those problems with courage and optimism. Candy Winters, a popular senior noted for her captivating smiles, graceful movements and feminine charm, was crowned queen. Sue Ann Cleveland was select- ed as first runner-up with Ann Lee Carlson second. The queen and her court reigned over the Home- coming Ball. 36 37 'Junior JKiss Cxincficfate on n e vjiicox Jfc omecommy ueen ( ancfu (. ) n ers 40 Teacher of the Week, Mrs. Carol Banks receives her award from Student Council representatives. In this country we are often discouraged by temporary infractions of our individual rights. These departures from the democratic system can be corrected by peaceful means. Whereas in some nations criticism is suppressed and apparently the only means of relief is by revolution. President Wilson spoke of our mission to make the world safe for democracy. I hope this will be your mission, but by the demo- cratic and peaceful processes of education, example, and persuasion and not by force. With each of you go my personal best wishes for the years which lie ahead. WILLIAM J. SNEE 4 The basic responsibility of education is to teach young people the worth of all men and importance of getting along. The basic responsibility of the teacher is to challenge these young people to the point of question in their quest for truths. The attri- butes so necessary for a teacher to achieve this learning environment, are love, under- standing, and enthusiasm for these young people. It is our innermost desire in education that this wholly awakened man, ” in command of all his powers will be the kind of citizen who can sustain a free society - under God. 42 FRANCIS A. An average of over 80 points per meet helped the track team run up a string of 10 straight dual meet victories over its 3 year history. In Tioga County League meets, North Penn placed second while winning more first places than any other team. A good seasqn is one filled with memories ... Bill Skullney collapsing with exhaustion at the finish line while anchoring a league winning and record break- ing two mile relay team ... Mike Rumsey's great starts and his record in the 100 .. . Jim Harman's grace in the high hurdles ... sophomore Lenny Mahosky and his brute strength in the shot ... John Williams' assault on records in the mile and the 880 - what a stride!!! ... Terry Grant's record breaking pole vault in the first meet of the season ... three guys having their lap times break last year's 880 record while running the two mile relay at the district meet ... Rich Beach's flops” over the bar ... Pleasant memories of a great year.
