He not only aided us in our studies, but he was also looked to as a counsellor and a friend. He has made us realize the importance of a good education, and he has instilled upon us that learning never ceases, but continues throughout our entire life. He has shown us how to become good citizens, and he has given us the desire to achieve a worthy goal in life. He has diligently taught at the Blossburg school for thirty-six years. He began his work after he majored in science at Bucknell Univer- sity. It was the re that he received his B.A. and his M.A. He presently teaches chemistry and biology. He is not the only member of his family who is employed at our school system. His son received his degree in social studies at Mansfield State College and teaches world cul- tures and geography here. His wife is a third grade teacher in North Penn's elementary divi- sion. They are a greatly admired family. He has a cheerful personality and always has a smile for everyone. He is a man of great character and is respected by all. Therefore, we wish to dedicate this edition of the PENNSONIAN to a man who is our friend and teacher -- Mr. James R. Warren. Mr. Warren and his son, Mr. James Warren, Jr. Mr. Warren conducting an experiment -- a familiar sight to all at North Penn. 5 In the following pages, the members of the 1966 Pennsonian staff present what we hope will serve as a lasting tribute to North Penn High School. Since the class of '66 is the last to graduate from North Penn, it is especially important that this yearbook embodies a complete picture of our school. It is, of course, possible to capture but a small portion of the spirit of our school with a camera and pen. Many of the unforgettable incidents, whether schoolwide or personal, cannot possibly be pre- served in a book. We hope that the pictures and descriptions in this yearbook - of people, places, and events - will help recall many fond memories of the past years at North Penn. FOREWORD Our Alma Mater North Penn High A fond salute to thee . ? T 8 THE NORTH PENN JOINT SCHOOL BOARD (SEATED) C. Macintosh, H. Sumner, E. Lamberson, W. Sherwood, G. Cleveland, H. Johnson, M. Ward, Secretary; M. Bellinger. (STANDING) A. Lisowski, R. Weiskopf, J. Stempeck, G. Guy, J. Baker, H. Dahlgren, C. Zuchowski, Dr. Ninomiya. The School Board consists of members duly elected from the six school districts. These citizens unselfishly give of their time and talent and are devoted to the betterment of our edu- cational system. In July this school board will be dissolved and a new one will be formed from the Southern Tioga School District. 10 TO THE CLASS OF 1966: In my mind I will remember this Senior Class as a class of firsts and lasts. Some members of the Senior Class were the first kindergarten class in the new Blossburg Ele- mentary School thirteen years ago. This Senior Class will be the last class graduating from this school under the name of North Penn. Paramount in my memories of this grad- uating class is the fact that each and every senior has the training, the fortitude, and the ability to become a success in their individual endeavors. The very best in your future endeavors. Ronald J. Couch Supervising Principal Dear Seniors: For some of you this day represents the end of your formal education. For others it represents the beginning of higher education. Regardless of your decision, please remem- ber that education is vital and there is no substitute for sweat of the brow in per- formance of an appointed task. Getting an education is only part of the battle. Putting one's learning to hard, productive work also is essential. William Snee Secondary Principal FACULTY HOME ECONOMICS Genevieve Sherman B.S., Mansfield Home Ec. Science The home economics department gives to girls from grades seven through twelve an opportunity to learn the funda- mentals of sewing, cooking, and family planning under the expert supervision of Mrs. Sherman. GUIDANCE Mr. Musingo is our guidance counselor. During the school year, Mr. Musingo directs testing programs. He aids students in select- ing courses, colleges, and vocations. He also conducts group guidance classes. 14 Thomas Musingo B.S., Indiana M.A., Penn State Guidance Counselor MUSIC and ART Miles Wood B.S., Mansfield Music Douglas Durnin B.S., Mansfield Music Clifford Meixel A. B., Lycoming Art Music and art give students the oppor- tunity to learn, recognize, and appreciate values through participation. By being in band, chorus, and music or art class, students gain awareness of the fact that they can enjoy the qualities of art and music in later life. is SOCIAL Edward Cornett B.S., Mansfield Social Studies John A. Dwyer B.S., Mansfield Social Studies English THE HISTORY ROUND TABLE 16 STUDIES The social studies curriculum gives students a better understanding of the world they live in, and makes them better citizens by doing so. Usingtext books, current events, and individual thought and research, the students find truth as they study with the benefits of a free educational system. Social studies prepare the student to fill his proper place in his home, his country, and the world. John Muto B.S., Mansfield Social Studies 17 James A. Warren B.S., Mansfield Social Studies The aim of the English curriculum is to help the student develop to the maximum of his individual ability in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Through listening and reading, the student learns to interpret the ideas of others. Consequently, he is able to formulate his own ideas and present them in a logi- cal and concise pattern in his own speech and writing. Therefore, English helps the student to communicate better with those around him as he learns to cope with his own thoughts and to establish them in a form which others understand. MOTHER-DAUGHTER RECREATION NIGHT The Girls Athletic Association, in its third year, has found 1965-66 its most successful year with seventy members meeting on Tuesday and Thursday during activity period. Our first group after school activity this year was a Mother-Daughter Recreation night held on October 27. Everyone participated in activities such as volleyball, badminton, square dancing and recreational activities after which refreshments were served. Our second major activity was the Tioga County Girls Play Day held at North Penn, Thursday, December 30, from 9-4. Girls from Wellsboro, Liberty, Cowanesque, Canton, Williamson, and North Penn competed on mixed teams in relays, indoor hockey, and volleyball. Ribbons were presented to the winners of first, second, third, and fourth place teams. On Thursday, March 31, G. A. A. sponsored a bus to Lock Haven State College to see the Physical Education demonstration in Thomas Field House in preparation for our own Physical Education show which was held on Tuesday, April 5, in co-operation with the boys gymnastics club. In April the senior members of G. A. A. were honored at the Senior Banquet which was held at the Ponda Rosa Restaurant in Mansfield. G. A. A. sponsors many other activities which include the girls intramural program, the sale of sweatshirts and sweatpants, the interschool athletic teams, the physical fitness awards pro- gram and the track team. We also have initiated our own leadership training program to give qualified students an oppor- tunity to direct students in the intramural program, to set-up G. A. A. activities, and to organize all special programs of the association. The highlight of our season was the presentation of the trophy to the outstanding athlete of the year which traditionally is a senior girl. The nomina- tions are made in April but the winner is not known until the awards day assembly program. TRACK and FIELD (ROW 1) Mrs. Muto, D. Veil, C. Woodard, L. Sherman. (ROW 2) J. Wilson, D.
