Cf-Vesv gnfzpkzsls ucahon A year or even sux months ago ut was an un usual occurrence to flnd un any newspaper an artucle on the subuect of Educatuon Durung the past few months ut us duffTcult to flnd a news paper that does not utuluze some of uts columns to duscuss varuous phases of Educatuon or need for change un Educatuon Thus umpetus for glv ang ummedaate attentuon to Educatuonal changes and Educatuonal expansuon prevauls on local state and natuonal levels The Amerucan target whuch sparked the need for natuonal aud to Educatuon was the Whute House Conference on Educatuon called by Presu dent Eusenhower a few years ago A luttle later the President of the Unuted States recommended to Congress a Federal Aud Bull for Educatuon whuch was not passed At the present tume on a natuonal level we have the natuonal cutuzens councul for Better Schools workung on problems of educatuon We have also a natuonal Edu catuonal Polucues Commussuon workung on sumular problems The work of all these commuttees wull affect hugh school educatuon On the State level we have a commuttee ap pounted by Governor Leader to study the edu catuonal needs of our Commonwealth Thus commuttee wull undoubtedly make specuflc recom mendatuons for our General Assembly to adopt un T959 We also have our Leguslatuve commuttee representung 60000 teachers un Pennsylvanua studyung educatuonal needs On a local level and specutlcally for North Penn Hugh School we now have a self evalu atuon whuch was made of our enture school pro MELVIN F SHISLER Assustant Pruncupal gram by our admunustratuon and school staff By the tume the Accolade comes off the press we wull have the recommendatuons of an Evaluatuon commuttee comprusung twenty sux school admun ustrators teachers and educatuonal speclalusts who have made an untensuve three day study of our local hugh school program Thus us a pro fessuonal group and we should expect a profes suonal uob from them ln compluance wuth recom mendatuons from thus commuttee we should have one of the best schools un the county The lmmeduate hysterua for educatuonal changes has come about as a result of the successful launchung of a dog gone Russuan mussule Some ummeduate raducal changes whtch have already been proposed are a sux day school week twelve months school year lunuor colleges free scholarshups for students and teachers un scuence and mathematucs We realuze that many of the changes recom mended wull not ummeduately become a part of our educatuonal program that scuentuflc edu catuon us not the only need of Ameruca today Promotuon and buuldung of peace calls for knowl edge of many kunds and the challenge of Ameru can educatuon should not be regarded as a matter of competutuon wuth Sovuet scuence and technology Thus new emphasis un educatuon wull affect you the Senuor class as you pursue courses un hugher educatuon or as you follow careers of your cholce Congratulatuons and good luck upon your graduatuon from North Penn Hugh School MELVIN F SHISLER Assustant Pruncupal L- . , . on ' .
