Fortunate are we that we have such an effi- cient cafeteria staff that swings into action every day to prepare food for approximately fifteen hundred students iust when appetites begin to sharpen. Through their cheerful co-operation and tire- less effort, students of North Penn are served in- expensive, nourishing lunches daily. cr n iforia! This must be the motto of North Penn's efficient Janitorial Staff, for whether washing windows, fixing leaky pipes, or wrestling an active floor polisher, you may be sure a friendly smile will greet you even while you sublimely prod over newly-washed floors with muddy feet. Staff worked under the leadership of Mr. Calvin Potts and met semi-weekly. There were many economic problems connected with the production of this year- book. Cost had to be reduced, one thousand yearbooks had to be sold. As early spring approached laborious iob of typing the yearbook material became their responsibility. Mem- bers of royal group were ot sophomore, junior, and senior rank. Chosen leaders were Larry Landes, President, Donna Guenst, Vice-Presi- dent, Doug Fisher, Secretary-Treasurer, and Eddie Rourke, choir manager. Lynne Bartholemew and Shirley Brown provided accompaniment. First appearance requested by King was on Thanksgiving morning at Community Concert in Trinity Lutheran Church, choir sang Gloria In Excelsis and A Prayer of Thanksgiving. As year progressed, everyone enioyed Christmas Concert which was given first at P. T. A. Meet- ing lcourt tunctionl and then at junior and senior high assemblies. Among songs presented were: Go Tell It On The Mountains, negro spiritual, moving arrangement of Onward Christian Soldiers and ever-popular l'Halleluiah Chorus. Sue Auf der Heyde assumed responsible role of Agatha Reed, Congresswoman who returned to Good Hope College to receive honorary degree. Ed Rourke played the distinguished Dr. Mer- rill, now President, then professor of history at Good Hope. Twenty years earlier, these two had had very, very late date which resulted in ex- pulsion of Miss Reed. Add to this rekindling sarcastic presence cf handsome Life photographer, Matt Cole, por- trayed by Doug Fisher, and you have ingredienis for an always interesting, frequently amusing plot. Miss Reed's not-so-private Secretory was played by Helen Gutman, while Miss Shackle- ford, Miss Birdeshaw and Helen Griswold were Sandy Holl, Jean Ditzler, and Sue Finley. Janet Jones was Ginny, daughter of Dr. Merrill, while Larry Landes was Dr. Pitt and Greg Woodrult, Mr. Griswald. Two persons indispensable at weekly meetings were pianists Lynne Bartholomew and Shirley Brown. Group participated in several exchange as- semblies as well as Christmas, Orchestra and Spring concerts, and for Baccalaureate service. Other groups for which it performed were: ln- dustrial Management Club, North Wales Metho- dist Church, Lansdale Kiwanis Club, and Junior Women's Club. Friday, it was no cause tor excitement, Administration hadn't advocated cutting classes. These boys were members of the Bowling Club and were on their way to the bowling alley. Group included beginners as well as ex- perienced bowlers, On bowling alley this was probably the most quiet group of boys you'd ever met. Quietness and consideration for others were some of the pointers in bowling etiquette, which boys learned as well as pointers on developing their tech- niques. Sponsors, Mr. Collins and Mr. Youtzy, provided such a good club that most of the members remained until 4:30 P.M. Cm-.J CM Senior High What's trump? How many chips do you want? Under the clirec- tion of Mr. Bitting, club accurately meas- ured 220-yard dash and crossecountry track. They also measured and laid out the new baseball diamond. Along with bettering our school, they learned funda- mentals of staking out the foundation of a house and reading transit and level for certain angles and elevations. College Senior High College Club resided in Room 201 un- der capable leadership of Miss Hirzel. They elected Joan Mains president and Carole Gassner secretary. Students reviewed mathematics and English during first semester, During second semester they followed Fine's American College Counselor and Guide. This had sections on occupational fields, self-inventories, college ratings, expecta- tions, scholarships, working during col- lege, admission requirements a n d credits. Object of club was to familiarize future college students with what to expect and to prepare them for college boards. Junior High seems to have taken fancy to woodworking, for about l5 girls in club are all in grades seven to nine. Easy as this sounds, much skill was needed, and atmosphere often became very competitive. Boys organized four teams and par- ticipated in intra-club tournament. Every week boys used machine and hand tools, glued pieces together, or painted finished models, and enjoyed working on their hobbies. After many tedious hours of summer scrim' mages and drills inexperienced team entered Bux-Mont competition against Hatboro. Hatters became first Maiden conquest as girls went on to defeat Pennridge and Upper Perkiomen in that order. Mid-season brought both undefeated record and flu. Unfortunately epidemic placed several first-string players on bench. Due to ready and willing attitude of J. V. players, however, flu- emptied sneakers were soon filled. Team played hard but both Quakertown and Central Bucks games ended in deadlocks. When final game was won, maidens were champions! However, they could only have full possession of title if Upper Moreland had lost. Under helm of Coach Shirley Ott and very able assistant, Mrs. Joy Renfrew, squad prac- ticed long and diligently perfecting basic skills. Girls learn all skills well: shooting, passing, guarding dribbling, foul shooting. Nothing over- looked by anxious team in quest of title. Rebuilding was main task of this year's club. With only one returning letter winner, Mrs. Ott and charges had work cut out for them. As queens approached championship game with Pennridge, record read four wins and one tie. This vital game was most exciting of all and ended in 54-48 victory, team then proceeded to complete season with an unblemished record. Playing last time for North Penn in Central Bucks game were: Mary Lou Bickel, Joan Fetter- olt, Lynne Fuss, Sandra Krotz, Maxine Lewis, and Joan Robison. Fortunately other four of ten letter winners will be back next year: Christ Albright, Nancy Braxton, Karen Reppa and Carol Weikel. King very pleased! Angstadt's Knights Win Second Bux-Mont Cham- pionship in Three Years, cried the Crier, And so they had. Led by Don Bomber Stauffer and Fred Lindahl, and ably assisted by Ray Rakowski, Ernie Wayland and Lee Smith. This year's club provided enough thrills and excitement for three teams. After losing to Springfield 64-60 on January 17, they were never defeated during the remainder of the season. Thus ending with a commendable 16-2 log. Following the Upper Perkiomen victory, the basketeers, led by Stauffer with 22 points, downed Upper Moreland. Ambler was next to fall prey and again Bomber led the team with 18 while Lindahl followed close behind with 16 markers. Souderton then felt the sting of defeat, 71-59, sweet revenge for one of two losses suffered earlier on away courts. Team rolled past Perkiomen, Central Bucks, Gold-less Spring- field and Pennridge in that order before tucking away Bux-Mont Crown on February 18. This qualif1ed the club for Class A play-offs, where the Knights met and were defeated by a very strong Delhaas team, 66-47. Stauffer won a spot on the second team all Bux- Mont selections, Lindahl and Smith had game highs of 34, Wayland and Rakowski were leading rebounders throughout the season. Dick Harris proved a valuable sub as did nucleus of next year's club, all returning lettermen, Jim Cole, Ron Erb, Skeets Mariano, Bob Walker, Rodney Butler and Bill Derby.
