Today we are one tomorrow we will be apart; But years from now, the feeling of friendship yill be renewed as we reflect upon memories of when we were all in this together. Back Home Again Coming home again is the reasoning behind homecom- ing . But this is pushed back in the students’ minds while focusing on rivalries between classes, floats, and game competition. Queen Karen Rogers reigned over the fes- tivities. The senior and junior classes tied for the class spirit award but the juniors came up on top by capturing the float competition. After being defeated by the Frankfort Hot Dogs, a dance featuring Spo- kane was held. Jim Myers, chuggin' for the Chargers. Junior class. winner of the float competition. Charger marching band presents the Mickey Mouse Revue . 7 Listen. Can you hear? That is not music. It is me. Take me along and listen. I can tell you stories and make you smile or cry. I can be the harmony to the melody. I can be your friend. My heart opens wide to gather in the stars, for in my heart they grow to the dream I want. It’s up to me to live up to my dream. It’s up to me to be the person that I want to live with. I can live no one else’s dream, or live as someone else wants. I am only myself and no one else. I am free! 13 The good, The bad The happy. The sad If you knew us yesterday, please do not think we are the same people that you are meeting today. We have experienced more of life, we have encountered new depths to those we love, we have suffered and prayed, we are different. The girls begin their cries of witchcraft, throwing a whole village into turmoil. Tituba, in fear of her life, confesses to witchcraft with the Devil. Mary Warren backs off in fright as Proctor rebukes her for leaving her duties. 41 Moonlight and Mistletoe The Sunshine Society and Key Club International of North Montgomery, jointly sponsored a glittering winter wonderland of dancing by Ambrosia and fun by all involved. Classes participate in activities which promote school spirit in anticipation of the Sectional Tourney. The Junior class reigned over this year’s activities as they were presented the winning plaque. The excitement cli- maxed as the Chargers defeated Crawfordsville and McCutcheon to capture their third Sectional Crown. Michele McAnulty proclaims. We're number 1, second to none! Jeff Turner adds two points, as the Chargers defeat Crawfordsville to earn their way into the championship game. An embrace of happiness and a pat on the back for a job well done. Mr. Kriston explains the game strategy as the Chargers prepare for McCutcheon in the final game of sectional. Alan Fenteis and Rick Ehrhardt compete for their class in Spirit Week activities. 45 Charger Relays Weary wiih fatigue. J. Young pushes on to cross the fin- ish line. M. Woodall makes a pass at J. Turner. Charger Attendants: K. Myers. Queen K. Rogers. T. Morgan, J. Woodward. S. Bane gets off to a running start. 46 A good sized crowd, graced with clear skies and warm temperatures, turned out to watch ten records shattered at the sixth annual Charger Relays. Seven schools--Crawfords- ville, Southmont, Coving- ton, Seeger, McCutcheon, West Lafayette, and Benton Central joined the host Char- gers in what was the best show in the history of the relays. The Charger boys and girls teams combined for three winning performances. The boys medley relay team of Mitch Woodall, Tim Hill, Dale Elmore, and Mike Woo- all set a record of 1:36. Deb Janssen and Susan Fike bined for a victory in the ; long jump with a mark Kelly Klinker mmett gave the first place with a effort in the shotput. Let Us Entertain You Convocations provided a refreshing break from the rou- tine for book-weary students. Besides our own North Mont- gomery Singers and Stage Band, the Warsaw High School Swing Choir and the Freedom Jam provided music to entertain the students. Convocations are also a learning experience. Students learned about the world of advertisement through the eyes of a radio disc jockey and about ventriloquism from a man who taught as he entertained. f) The Music Man cen- ters in a small, stubborn Iowa town in the year 1912. Very closed-minded to new ideas, all are skep- tical when a stranger, Harold Hill, enters their town. Soon, with his quick tongue. Hill has everyone excited about the prospects of a boy's band, which he has no intention of form- ing. However, he falls in love with the town librar- ian, Marian Paroo, and for the first time gets his foot stuck in the door. Although Hill causes uproar and confusion in the begin- ning, the people come to realize all the love and warmth he is responsible for bringing to River City. I I Marcellus (]. Gillikin) and Professor Hill (S. Weliever) sing about the Sad- der but Wiser Girl . The boys barbershop (J. Milton, D. Virgin. L. Branstet- ter. B. Dixon) harmonize Ice Cream as Harold listens. It's my cornet! exclaims Winthrop (C. Dailey) to Marian (D. Tipton). 50 Grecian urn ladies (L. Biddle, C. Harris, M. Binford.C. Booher) practice for the ice cream sociable. Marian and Amaryllis (S. Moore) sing together Goodnight my Someone . Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn (K. K1 inker) leads the Wa Tan Ye girls from the local wigwam. Professor Harold Hill comes to River City, Iowa. Harold Hill drops by to see the lonely piano teacher. Marian, as Mrs. Paroo (T. Dowell) encourages their conversation. 51 Months of planning, selling conces- sions, and a panic-filled Friday night of decorating all came together on Saturday night, May 14, as the class of '78 pre- sented Shining Star. Carrying out the western theme, cacti were given for favors and a huge tiered cake added to the fes- tive atmosphere. Madison Zane, a band from Ohio, provided the evening's music as Karen Rogers and Rick Reed were crowned Prom Queen and King respec- tively. The post prom was again a suc- cess, as the gymnasium was filled with dancing, casino games, old movies, and of course, pizza and ice cream! Drawing for prizes was held every hour, and a good time was enjoyed by all. 52 53 54 TGIF never sounded so good! Senior Day was filled wiih frisbccs. Big Mac attacks, acrobatics in the Commons, and utter chaos! Breakfast at McDonald's was devoured at 6 a.m. with a caravan leading to school to start the day's activities. The afternoon was spent practicing for com- mencement. and the thought of leaving friends brought some tears, as the big day was finally here. i David Jones is awarded with the Outstanding Music Mathematics award. Bette Carson, the Outstanding Senior in Business is congratu- lated by Mrs. Crumley. Bubbly Marcia Lough accepts the Outstanding Science award from Mr. Seale. Foreign exchange student from France. Isabelle Dixmier, received her sports sweater. Outstanding Industrial Art’s major was Gary Fike. 56 Hello World! Saturday, June 4th, at 2:30, the 1977 Seniors left their high school days behind to embark in a life of their own. Senior Class President Jenny Corey presided, and honor students John Ehrie, Jerri Vail, and Jill Odle addressed their fellow class- mates. As the choir sang Times of Your Life, many happy memories flowed through the minds of the departing seniors. Former IHSAA Commissioner Phil Eskew gave the commence- ment address which was enti- tled Batters Up. His wit and humor was enjoyed by all and this message went with the graduates as they entered another phase of their lives. 58 60 61 Masses Classes Classes Classes O Mr. Walke discusses a test question with Sara Richard in his Biology I class. Mr. Streetman explains the process of mitosis to his Biology II classes. I can't believe what I just saw! exclaims Martha Binford while Joe Cain, Steve Spencer, and Dan Gwin wait their turn. Yvette Custer performs a daily task: solving her Chemistry I work- sheet. 64 Learning by Doing Getting the kidneys mixed up with the livers, stinking preservatives, and propagat- ing fruit flies makes Biology interesting? Although Physics students don’t believe it, ice cannot be heated past its melting point. Chemistry experiments can leave the students with black stained hands, blue spots on dresses that are supposed to be brown, and headaches when they bomb an unknown. All of this is made better when Mr. Seale gets you to laugh at yourself. Jeff Dixon gets help with his Chemistry assignment from Mr. Dalton. Another exciting day in Physics for Dan Gwin. Rex Tribbett. and John Ehrie who are listening attentively while Mr. Seale explains vector sums. With vim. vigor, and vitality. Mr. Seale explains vector sums to his Physics classes. 65 The English language has been here since we first could talk, and in high school we finally learn how to use it correctly. Finding out that English is more than nouns and verbs is quite a shock to many students. Literature courses enable students to learn about them- selves as well as others which will benefit them later in life. Ain't that right! Mr. Burke: a fine example of a true sports- man. 66 Heed This Jingle Be Bilingual Hola jComo estas?, Guten Tag! Wie geht es Iehnen, Salvete, Bonjour! Comment allez-vous? No matter how one says it the meaning is the same. Learning the languages, customs, and geography of foreign lands helps one understand and appreciate his own United States. Also one learns that people are not much different. 68 Mrs. McIntosh explains the how to’s of French. ’ Hand in those tests, Mrs. Gottschalk tells her Spanish class. Excitement overcomes Mr. Stenger as he teaches Latin. A New Beginning Mr. Spencer, Mr. Homey, Mr. German, Mr. Dale and Mr. Szymanski tried to keep the Social Studies Depart- ment from falling apart. Between filmstrips and quizzes they somehow found the time to make history and government seem interesting, of course not as interesting as Farrah Fawcett or the Fonz, but nevertheless interesting. Department head, James Spencer expressed the philos- ophy of the Social Studies Department when he said, Just ask your Mila Raper there; she knows about that kind of stuff. Pat Cassida, Linda Cox and Rusty Hoiladay prove government can be fun. Intense group discussions are a part of Mr. Homey's govern- ment classes. 70 Mr. Spencer sets the stage” for his next class. Grin and bear it Mr. German. Holy Toledo. Ohio!” exclaims Mr. Szymanski. Mr. Dale takes a break from preparing a daily worksheet. Brian Williams looks up as if to say. ”When is graduation?” Business Many students partici- pate in North Montgom- ery's business program. These classes teach stu- dents the required skills for secretarial and business careers, as well as those needed for their own per- sonal use. OEA, a business related organization offers students an opportunity to polish skills and compete with others on the district, state, and national levels. Mrs. Crumley provides a helpful hand to all future secretaries. Mr. Dickerson pleads, Why can't you people type any faster? Mr. Kriston straightens out Kelly's col- umns. Mrs. Crumley prepares her daily lesson plans for Office Lab. Mr. Brewer chuckles, That's impossi- ble!” '2 a(b+c) =ab+ac The career possibilities for mathematics students are innummerable. It is really a combination of a lot of things: responsibility, thousands of dollars have flowed through this room; promptness, the ability to get pages in on time; patience, trying to stay calm while doing a layout without pic- tures,--impossible! Of course one cannot forget humor for without it one would go crazy listening to Miss Fry’s jokes! Miss Fry. advisor and Editor Terri McCauley believe two heads are better than one. Staff members Brad Demorett and Becky Nunan discuss the fine points of photography while Peggy Lidester looks busy. Becky Guard works diligently to meet an upcoming deadline. Business manager.
