THE 1971-72 ARG lp FLASHBACK NORTH MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL We, the students of N.M.H.S., gratefully dedicate the 1971-1972 Charger Flashback to our parents and friends, who, through their hard work and dedica- tion, have established North Montgomery High School. THIS COULD BE THE START OF SOMETHING BIG It is amazing what the right kind of materials, a lot of hard work, and dedication can accomplish. 3 FIRE UP! 5 6 ALL CHARGED-UP FOR NORTH MONTGOMERY â wf mm m m STUDENT COUNCIL This year's Student Council started out as a student advisory committee. A boy and a girl were selected from each class at each school to be on the com- mittee. They devised a method of se- lecting the cheerleaders and Charger- ettes, wrote the school song, selected the newspaper name, school crest, school mascot. Later, during the year, the advisory board became North Mont- gomery's first Student Council and elected officers. They are: President- Carl Binford; Vice President-Sabra Weleiver; Secretary-Shannon Tinsley; Treasurer-Bill Pruett. 12 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Denny Yount The Pep Band has added much to the spirit of the fans at basketball games, pep sessions, and track meets, by there popular songs, marches and musical cheers. They also provided music for the Chargerettesâ half-time shows. 14 TO A GOOD START Kim Overpeck Mr. Hiller The Marching Band performs at all home football games, parades, college activities and other civic events. They won a trophy for being one of the top bands in the Crawfordsville Christmas Parade. In November the Marching Band becomes the Symphonic Band. The Symphonic Band plays at School Concerts, the County Festival, civic events, band contests, and at other high schools during the year. Many students from the band perform solos and perform in ensem- bles for contest each year. Some students also play in the musical Pit Band, Stage Band and the Pep Band. The Stage Band received a FIRST place at the State Contest this year. Dennis Yount and Carol Leste are student directors for the bands. The Huddle was formed in November of 1971 and has continued to grow since that time. Our first activity came in the form of selling those crazy orange derbies just before the sectional. Needless to say, the hats were a big smash with the student body. Some of our Huddle members attend- ed the State FCA Leadership Weekend and some others are planning to attend the summer conferences. The basic purpose of the Huddle is to bring together athletes who are also Christians for sharing of ideas, problems, ideals, and for further- ing the cause of Christ within the athletic environment of school and community. 32 THIS SECTION IS DEVOTED TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO DESERVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF SCHOOL MISS MONTGOMERY COUNTY JR. MISS â MONTGOMERY COUNTY Here's Elaine Tribbett, a Lassie who also was the 4- H queen. I wonder if she'll get her own T. V. show. OEA NATIONAL CONTESTANTS Linda Claycomb Cathy Roger Julie Dale ELKS SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS The Elks Leadership Scholarships are awarded each year to six Mont- gomery County students, three girls and three boys, for outstand- ing leadership in school and com- petitive social activities. This year North Montgomery had five of the six winners attending N. M. H. S. Those students were (L. TO R. ): Dave Newhouse, Julie Klin- ker, Dave Lofland, Nita Alexan- der, and Gary Fletcher. COACH OF THE YEAR! BETTY CROCKER AWARD SALUTATORIAN Just think, maybe ten years from now we might be buy- ing Coleeta Brown Cake Mixes since Coleeta was the winner of the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award. Not one to be outdone, Coach Kriston followed his boys example of winning and took the title of Coach of the year . In every good comedy team there's the smart guy and the dummy. This dummy just happened to be the Salutatorian of the Class of â72 , Gary Fletcher. 35 T S O C P H 0 T L E A N S T I C s E N I 0 R Sabra Weliever, Dave Newhouse, Jerry Bean, Gail Hampton, Carl Binford, Alberta Newton, Jan- ice Boone, Tom Henthorn. Summer practices were long and hot, but they eventually paid off by giving the North Montgomery fans a fine 6-4 record. With this, we finished third in the WRC confer- ence. They started the season with a fine showing, beating seeger on Friday night and on Saturday night, Crawfordsvilie. They won the first eight games, only to lose the last game of the Lebanon Holiday Tourney to Harrison High School. They lost again to Harrison in reg- ular season play at home, in a thrilling over- time game by only three points. Then, after a one point margin loss to Benton Central, they won the last four conference games and finished as WRC basketball champions, hold- ing a conference record of 8 wins and no losses. Though they did not win the first sectional tournament at North Montgomery, they had a season to be proud of, and the Chargers will be back next year for that sectional trophy! 49 THE VARSITY SENIORS Though all the Seniors on the Varsity didn't start, they would have made an awesome foe for any challengers by themselves. 51 JUNIOR VARSITY RECORDS FINE SEASON KNEELING (LEFT TO RIGHT): B. Roger Campbell takes the foul as sophomore Steve Pruett (at left) and junior Jim Rosen (32) look on. 52 The Junior Varsity cagers recorded a fine season this year, finish- ing with a record of 16 wins and 4 losses. Coach Speaker's goal for the year was to prepare these boys mentally and fundamentally for play on the Varsity squad next year. This goal was accomplished as they seemed to shape into a fine, organized, and good defensive team, even before the Christmas break. Though the team was juggled, as Steve Pruett went up to the Varsity after Christmas, and Jim Rosen and Alan Bane came down to play on the squad, they still kept an organized and well-balanced attack for every foe. And they won their last seven games in a row, to make a fine finish for a great season. 53 FRONT ROW: (LEFT TO RIGHT) S. Cole- man, D. Wise, P. Cox, C. Quinby, K. Schoen. FRESHMAN WIN TOURNEY 54 Besides having a most successful sea- son in which both freshman squads were almost unbeatable (losing only two games in their combined seasons), the tourney squad put together two fine games to win the first North Montgome- ry Freshman Invitational tournament, beating Southmont in the final game, 57-47. THE BANNER OF EXCELLENCE 86 SENIORS LOOK TO THE FUTURE 88 IN MEMORY OF . . DEBBIE CATHY Since last they passed this way.... Many have gone by... But few have forgotten what it was like to know them. They sought to find the treasures in life.... Alas, so many do the same.... But so few have found them because they are unpre - pared. They now venture into a much greater life.... One that can only be dis- covered by the exploration of infinity.... One that can only be found in passing.... They'll never pass this way again.
