Lynn Vega and john Kemrnerer study geography as a part of their social studies course. Social Studies includes the study of manis past as well as his mental attitudes towards his pres- ent. A guide used in pursuing the social sciences relates to the quotation, man's relation to man is long pondered enigma ,... and the answer will be the sword to cut the master knot of human fatef, While studying the past, students learn Amer- ican history and government, world history and geography. Sociology and psychology, when pre- sented to the student, aid him in understanding contemporary social problems. A student is taught how to better understand his friends and himself. Learning and understanding our past will guide our futures. Sherry Samples places current events on the bulletin hoard. Creative writing students examine last year's Kaleidoscope. Fine Arts Develop Fine Skills Maxine Levine and Elaine Edwards work hard to meet their deadline on the Pioneer Through the creative arts students are able to express themselves. Creative writing classes, under the direction of Mrs? Gaetano, publish the Kaleido- scope, a literary magazine, produced exclusively by students. Under the guiding hand of Mr. Niles, the Pio- neer , the school paper, is published every three weeks. Mr. Niles also directs the publishing of the yearbook, the Conestoga.', In Mrs. Hicks' debate classes, students learn how to Win an argument tactfully. Outstanding students attend debate clinic and contest Where they de- bate members of other schools. These debaters have brought many honors to our school in the past years. Claudio Aguirre displays his ability during a debate. 58
