Students find the beauty of geometric figures in models done with colorful string. Moth-The Queen of the Sciences Mathematics is very important today in the yast fields of science. In our mathematics department courses from basic math to Math Analysis and Analytic Geometry are offered. These courses not only prepare students for their more advanced edu- cation, but give them working knowledge which Business math courses help- many students as they pre- pare for a career. they may apply in every-day living. Students enrolled in our math programs in previ- ous years have brought many honors to North Miami High from Science Fairs and Silver Knight awards. Mrs. Branhan stimulates the thinking of her students in her geometry classes.

Science, being such a rapidly growing field, is given special attention in our curriculum. Under the direction of Mr. Spencer, the department offers biology, chemistry, physics, honors and advanced courses. Of the eight courses offered in science, only one course is required, three may be elective, and to qualify for the other courses, the student must be recommended by a previous science teacher. Our science Wing is always filled with busy students using the microscopes in biology, beakers and bunsen burners in chemistry, and scales in physics. Present Research Develops Future Scientists Physics students make practical tests of their theories. 5 i aft 54 Biology students, aided by Mr. Vioiano, learn anatomy through lah exercises.

Lynn Vega and john Kemrnerer study geography as a part of their social studies course. Social Studies includes the study of manis past as well as his mental attitudes towards his pres- ent. A guide used in pursuing the social sciences relates to the quotation, man's relation to man is long pondered enigma ,... and the answer will be the sword to cut the master knot of human fatef, While studying the past, students learn Amer- ican history and government, world history and geography. Sociology and psychology, when pre- sented to the student, aid him in understanding contemporary social problems. A student is taught how to better understand his friends and himself. Learning and understanding our past will guide our futures. Sherry Samples places current events on the bulletin hoard.
