The Academic Curriculum, being the most important component of the school organization, has undergone the greatest improvement ' in the past ten years. Ten years ago our classrooms were limited to three wings, for the seventh through ninth-graders. These students thought their school was adequate, but the real growth was yet to come. Two additional wings devoted to science and vocational shops were added. Our science department can now boast of advanced courses in all phases of science, from physical science to chemistry and physics. Our extensive vocational shops are equipped with over S300,000 in machinery. Our progress has not been in these fields alone, our science department, much like our mathematics department, has advanced courses for interested students. If a student started taking all the courses offered at our high school it would take him approximately 27 years to complete our curriculum. Our progress in the past ten years has been measured by our academic process. Improvement must accompany growth for progress. X

. l Students Moster Boslc Fundamentals in English One of the most important things one can acquire in school is the ability to speak and write effect- ively. Success comes to the person who has com- mand of his language. Here at North Miami High, the English Depart- ment teaches the students the basic fundamentals of communication, and provides a survey of our cultural heritage through the study of literature. For those students possessing the necessary qualifi- cations, honors classes provide an opportunity for more extensive study in English. Miss Stella Lewis, of VVidnes, England, this year exchanged places with our own Mrs. Mary Niles. Miss Lewis teaches twelfth grade English, while Mrs. Niles is teaching in a girls' school in England. En lish literature is discussed by students with Miss Stella Lewis, our exchange teacher Students learn the value of the dictionary and find many beneficial ways in which to use it Mrs. Chonin helps students in oral drills to develop their speaking. df Q ll. , , et efgiay, 'Wye A f ' '
