Varsity Gridders Finish With A-5-l Record North Miami footballers opened their 1961 sea- son with a bitter revenge meeting with Edison. Falling beneath a Red Raider rampage, the Pio- neers sufered a 39-0 loss. Determined not to fall in such a way again, Coach Bogart's eleven pushed into an even more rugged game with Norlandis Vikings. A bad break on the conversion try hit the Pioneer gridders for a 7-6 defeat. Stunning the Cavaliers with a 0-0 shutout, North Miami threw her jinx and in their next game ar- razed Jacksonvilleis Ribault team in a 34-7 romp. Miami High was next on the agenda and the Pioneers fell before the national champs 27-0. Then came two wins in a row for the Bogart- men as they took Miami Military's Kaydets 44-0 and downed Miami Jackson I9-7. Next North Miamiis gridders took a short jaunt to Jacksonville and lost to Andrew Jackson in a chilling 33-7 game. Back home again, the Pioneers played losing host to Jacksonville Lee, as they dropped their ninth bout of the season I4-6. In the last game Hiaelah fell for the third straight time, I3-6, in a high spirited rival Homecoming game, leaving the Pioneers with a 4-5-I record. Senior players are: FIRST ROW: J. Muthart, K. Pioneer, 1. Wirth, cuts off Raider runners path. Edison Avenges Miami Edisonis uliedmenv plowed over our Pio- neers in a heartbreaking 39-0 opener, as a spirited crowd of thousands observed the Bogartmen play a talented first quarter. Then in their second quar- ter quarterback Ken Osborn was taken out of the game with a ripped knee ligament. With his ab- sence, the club's controls were sluggish and evi- dence of Edison revenge on ,60 was visable. Soph. QB-R. M elich sends Muthart scarnpering. Injured Osborn helped oh' at the half. Norlond Nips, 7-6 The Pioneer Gridders led 6-0 at the half and in- flicted many injuries to the Viking lineup but they couldnit stop Norland halfback Larry Adams on a lucky breakaway kickoff sprint in the second half. This paced the Norland squad to their biggest victory of the season as the conversion kick pushed the scoreboard lead, 7-6.
