Man has always found it necessary to have strong bodies as well as strong minds. Our athletic program provides students from our school with an opportunity to develop sound bodies. Progress covers all areas, it is not confined to the classroom alone. We have experienced equally as much growth on our athletic fields as we have in academic fields. As our school was growing, the perfect outlet for student enthusiasm was in athletic contests. Students on the sidelines were able to participate just as actively as the players on the field through their school spirit. School spirit, an essential component of each student's personality, is the yardstick that measures the degree of interest students display in their school. Student participation grew with renewed excitement as each new victory was accumulated for North Miami Senior High. Victories are easily well received, but our young sports teams had to learn to accept defeat as well. With each new year came more experienced players, players who excelled in sportsmanship, who enjoyed athletics with no idea of reward. However, the rewards are an integral great part of athletics, not only the tangible trophies, but also more lasting ideals, which are instilled through sports programs. Participation on teams teaches the important lessons of cooperation and teamwork. Realizing a single person is just one part of the entire team, whether it is a school, community, or a national team, puts our society in a perspective for the students. They realize this necessity of sharing their talents to work for the goal of the entire team, not just their individual successes. Achievement comes through fair play and teamwork. This teamwork in sports as well as academic life has contributed greatlyto our first decade of progress.
